Is there such a thing as too short a shift?

just wondering about the throw in some of the short shifters... it looks like most are about 30% shorter and the adjustables are about 30-45% shorter... any down sides besides maybe preference or feel to goin the extra 15%

The shorter the shift, the stiffer/more difficult it will be to get into gear.
I'm sure at some point, there is a point of diminishing returns where the stiffness of the shifting far outweighs the advantage provided by the distance it must travel.
