Metal in oil but pan looks fine, thoughts?

Hi all, interested in your thoughts on this.
Just a general oil change and noted no issues with the oil itself. Upon emptying the drain pan, I noticed some pieces of metal left sitting in the drain pan. No pieces were magnetic, so my thought shifted to bearings.
In my want to investigate the issue further, I pulled off my oil pan off, but to my amazement, there's no sign off issues in it. No metal or fine bearing material.
The next step is to pull off the con rod end caps and investigate the rod bearings, but I would like to know if potentially I am overreacting at the sign of this metal, or there are some other places I should be looking at before pulling rod bearings out.
Thanks in advance

Probably over reacting...? Open apart the old oil filter and look through the media fibers, that'll tell you what you need to know. Use a magnet and see if you pickup any metal.

Thats puzzling! Seems like you spun some bearings based off what was drained. Borescope the pistons and see if there was anything that caused damage up top.

Thanks for some of the suggestions all. The oil pump is an interesting one I didn’t think of! Will have to take a look at that as well.

@Kevin. 145,000km, ~90,000miles. I would say it’s not have any internal engine work previously.

Follow up question, thoughts on whether I need to replace or reuse the rod bolts if the end caps are removed to check/replace bearings. If replace, there is enough room around the rod to get new bolts in?

Curious what your results are. Are you sure the debris is metallic? Can you take a closer picture of it? It doesn't look like metal shavings to me but that could be because of the picture quality.

I agree with you, it’s not shavings, but more small “bits” hence why I’m more perplexed. Not all of it is metallic in fairness, but definitely majority is along with metal in the filter and appears to be aluminium. Did a chemical reaction test with sodium hydroxide which confirmed this

It almost looks like casting flash. Have you replaced anything in the engine recently?

I did replace the lifters at the last oil fill. Changed to GSC zero tick lifters.
At this stage, I have no suspicions of them. There was no ticking noise like I would expect if one failed, and I checked the head and they all seem to be stiff and holding oil pressure.

Someone I spoke too also questioned about the turbo journal bearing failing. I checked it and it has no in and out play, but it does have side to side play, and a little more than I would have expected. Attached is a video
