Copper colord metal shavings in oil pan?

I have low oil pressure at idle around 2psi however when driving pressure is fine 40+psi. I pulled the oil pan and found what looked to be copper shavings and chip in the bottom and pan and screen of pick up tube. And ideas like maybe bad oil pump? hopefully not main bearings

my first thought was main bearings, and 40psi is NOT normal for cruising. 60-70 is.

Stop driving your car, those copper chunks are pieces of your bearings

Sounds like bearing, especially if it's a thin flake, as they are ussually made with multiple layers of various material. I had an 05 STI and after a hard pull on the dyno, idle oil pressure dropped 50% to 10 psi. I cut the filter and it was full of copper colored flakes. I drove 300 miles home, drove another 200 or so miles around town, and then traded it for my EVO X after I decided I didn't want to rebuild the motor again. I see my old car around town so apparently the damage wasn't fatal. Maybe just the crank journal kissing the bearing? My motor was built and had about 4k miles. Clearances were good. The tuner has a great reputation with customers but a bad reputation amongst other tuners who have worked with him. I figure maybe detonation damage? To the OP: Any kind of "incident" before the drop in pressure?

That is a very dirty/shady move on your part.

I assume it is some of the bearings inside the motor though since I can't think of anything else that has copper in there.

The pressure when driving varies from 40 to 90 at full throttle and holds pressure good, I dosent fit the symptoms of bearings to me. Ive been thinking maybe a part of the oil pump? Does anyone know what happens if the balance shaft or not realigned properly. I feel if there out of time since there attached to the oil pump it could cause problems????

Dirty/shady? I think not....when you've been f--ked out of as much $$$ as I have by the dealership you are allowed to get on top and grind a little. Maybe your just not as intimate with the service manager as I am.

On topic: as was mentioned the motor is toast as far as performance use, and the responsible thing would be an immediate rebuild, but if it's your dd I would roll the dice, flush the oil as best as possible, and see how long it will last. The situation will probably deteriorate until total failure but it might be enough time to source a block and rebuild.

I don't care that you f'ed the dealer but I feel bad for the sucker that got f'ed by the dealer when he probably thought he was getting a good car. See it how you want but that is just my opinion

Shallow move "soul stealer" it seems yours is already gone. I would check for crank end play and rod movement. Looks like a bearing to me though.

It's exactly that kind of behavior that makes it crucial to check VERY carefully the condition of used Evo's (and other performance cars) before buying. Some complete jackass is going to limp the car to sell it with catastrophic damage. To OP, thats bearing material, pull the motor.
