Metalic "clank" when backing up

Ok, just recently when I start to back up, I will hear this Metalic "clank" or "clunk" noise come from my car. It sometimes does it after I back up and start to move forward. It sounds as if it is coming from the rear of the car but I cannot really tell. Has anyone ever had experiance with this or know what is causing it?

Thanks!

I get so many clanks and clunks from my drivetrain that I don't even worry about them any more. But, yes, I get that too.

Lightbulb

I'm not sure about after you have backed up and move forward, but the initial clunk could be your rear brakes. If you use the emergency brake when parked sometimes they stick after the handle is lowered. When the wheel moves, they break free and "clunk". I noticed this once after washing the car. I had moved the car into the garage to wax it and when I wanted to do the final check in the sun I decided to just push it out. (I don't know if this qualifies as lazy since it's certainly more work to push the car than push the gas pedal. ) Anyway, the car wouldn't move at first so I checked that I had not left it in gear and pushed again. This time, the car moved with a loud clunk from the rear brakes. At the same moment the light bulb in my head went off, "Oh! That's what that noise is!".

I think its normal on an AWD car. My freinds WRX did the same thing. Well, if it aint normal, I had that noise for a long while now. But I've accepted it to be normal.

Got it, had it... I have had 2 different GSX's before, and a WRX, never heard that before... Very strange, never looked into it... But I guess I'll ask... Must be normal cause I hear it if it back out, and turn the wheel... If I back straight out, don't hear it.. If I just give it a little bit of juice and let it roll out in neutral, never hear it.. Must be something with the gears engaging in reverse or something.. But nothin's broke...

I hear it everytime I back out of my garage and start to turn my wheel when I get out in the street. I was actually gonna take it to the dealer about it, but it sounds to be a normality of the car. I never really paid a whole lot of attention to it til my buddy said something.

I have it also, I too think it is just the rear breaks sticking. But it does not bother me.

actuall i have it too, and i have an aftermarket downpipe, and i found out it was my downpipe tapping the front lower bar (the one that is the closest tolerance to the downpipe)
