Problem with Buschur Racing Magneflow muffler...

Hey guys,

My Magneflow muffler inlet is the same size as the outlet on the Buschur Racing exhaust, so they way it hooks up is to butt the two sections together and secure it with a band clamp. Well, it has come apart on me twice now, and the second time it happened (today) when the front of the muffler dropped down it dug into an imperfection in the road and ripped all the way off causing substantial damage to my rear bumper cover.

Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do to solve it?

Two simple solutions come to mind, #1 would be to weld the damn thing on the exhaust pipe. #2 would be to add a front hanger to the muffler to support the weight instead of relying on a band clamp to support it.

Thanks for listening to me,

Keith

I'd say DONT weld it. My motorcycle exhaust had retainer springs, go to a bike shop and look at the higher quality exhausts and you'll see. Its a little post witha hole that keeps the spring away from the metal (noiseless) and one welded to the muffler accordingly. Any good muffler shop should be able to do this with the idea explained to them for cheap. problems solved.

The band clamps were not designed to be reusable. I have had similar problems. I had mine welded on. I am not too concerned about being able to remove it. Hope this helps.

Probably your best bet would be to just weld it on. Then you won't have to mess with it later on. A muffler shop would probably only charge you like $20-30.

After the first one got messed up when it fell off I used a new band clamp. That is the one that came loose this time, brand new clamp.

Anyway, if this is happening to other people besides me then Dave needs to fix the design. I probably have $500 in damage to my rear bumper cover

Hey guys, search function don't seem to be working. I was trying to do a search to find out where to get some new upgraded exhaust hangers since the rear most muffler hanger was destroyed when the muffler ripped off. If anyone knows where I can get some I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Keith

Hey fourdoor, it is a slip fit. When I first got mine, I thought it wouldn't fit so I just put the ends of the pipes together and used the clamp over it and it did the same to me as it did to you, exept it fell out but didnt rip my bumper. Later, I started messing with the pipes and it does slip fit. You just have to play(adjust) with it to get the muffler part to slip into the catback part. It has not fallen out since.

Yeah, I thought one of the ends would fit inside (slip) the other pipe end.

Yeah it's definitely slip fit (I have the BR turbo-back w/ magnaflow). It can take a bit of pushing, prodding and cursing but it should slip over the pipe. Once you get it started, it goes on fine -- I've found that it's easier now that I've done it a few times while "tweaking". If it absolutely doesn't slip on, give BR a call.

I'm haven't seen any of these exhaust systems, but there are no flanges or V-Band clamps on them?

That sounds strange...

Ditto on the slip fit. Also, when it's properly slipped together, the band clamps ARE reusable. If you can't get the two pieces together then it's highly likely that the cat back tube was slightly crushed in shipping. Mine was on the cat end of the pipe. Once I massaged it to a round shape it slipped together.

Dude, call them. This isn't supposed to happen, mine stay on 100%, no budging or wiggling.

I put this up on the Buschur tech forum as well, and was told that it should be a slip fit just like the guys here said. I will put it back on again after I get a new hanger for the rear mount and beat on it a bit with a hammer if it don't want to go on like it should.
