Turbo's question

I am looking into getting a turbo upgrade for my car within the next week or so, and I was just wondering what turbo package's people recommend, and what else I need to mod to accomodate the bigger turbo's, all my mod's are in my sig. I am deciding between the RnR, the buschur, and the UR turbo's and I was hoping some people would be able to give me some insight on the pro's and con's of each of these turbo's

What about AMS.....they have a very nice GT35RR package and the exhuast manifold piping is extremely good looking. Check it out too.

right, what are your power goals when you upgrade your turbo? anything upto 400wbhp and you may aswell stop with the stock turbo! affter that then upto 500wbhp i would say go for a Garrett GT30R turbo (very good spool up/little lag) from RnR or AMS. anything after that and you will need the GT35R (that will go past 700bhp!) again from RnR or AMS.

from the mods that you have listed then you are going to need some ignition/fueling control (IMO). a good standaload would be my recomendation (Gems, MoTec, etc). i would also that with anything bigger than the stock turbo you should be looking at a stronger bottom end (or go for a stroker)! and a really good tunner to set the whole thing up right!

I was hopin for around 500 WHP on race gas, but I am willing to settle for less to make the car street drivable, I want the turbo to spool fairly quickly, how does the GT30R spool?

I think that the GT30R would be the best. I hear that it’s only 3-400rpm behind stock on a 2.0ltr. On a stroker you could get that down a bit more. AMS’s car ran a GT35R and in a vid that I saw there was very little lag at all. You just need to get the car set up right.
To get spool up/lag to a minimum then you may want to swap the cams for some Pipers (or Tomei/JUN) as these have much better profiles than the HKS ones. You could get a stroker (Boost Solutions new 2.3ltr looks interesting or the JUN 2.2 is tried and tested). This would give you huge torque and help with the lag. If you wanted you could build a hybrid turbo, GT30R inlet with a GT28R (I think) exhaust. This would mean very fast spool up with a small reduction in top end! There is also anti-lag which is very effective and most standalones will support it. The downside is that it will shorten the life of the turbo but as most are switch able, then you could just run it when needed. Advancing the ignition and dialing out all cam overlap will make a huge difference. The first can be taken much furtherer with water injection. Upping the comp. ratio will also help no end. Some say that this is detrimental on a turbo car, and up until recently it was. With new engines that are much better designed (less prone to detonation) you can run them much higher. Again water injection will help (and let you run a little more boost).

Hope this helps and any questions just ask.

Thanks Chris.
