Best cam for ultimate HP

A week ago I ordered the jun 272 cams which at this time has't arrived. I have been reading that some people like 264 juns the most. Please advise me on what cam is the best and why. My goal is 550+whp and right now I have 264 HKS. I also have a microtech standalone.
Thanks for your help.

for ultimate hp get jun 272's, (unless you have a stanalone they wont idle)
people like 264's since they make tons of hp throughout the powerbandand idle ok
jun 272's expect 42+ hp

You do not need a stand alone to make the Jun 272's idle. The exede or any other piggy back with idle control will work as well. A stand alone would be better though. They are very agressive and will be rough, springs and retainers are a must for them as well but they should produce major power once tuned.

I've got 264i/272e HKS cams, and love them. Good idle. You don't need 272i unless you have a higher flowing intake manifold.

I hear JUN cams are VERY good. They have a much more aggressive profile than ANY of the HKS cams. This helps with both torque and power. Make sure you get the springs and retainers, and get someone good to set them up for you! Apart from that you will be well away.

Chris.

PS anyone got the lift at 50 thou or the angle of the face of the JUN 264/272s? Thanks.

i'm running the JUN 272 on the intake and exhaust. i just had it on the dyno last night and the JUN's are so aggressive that they are forcing me to get a bigger turbo now. they just aren't getting enough air after 5.5 rpm's. you can see on the chart that they just want to climb out of the graph, but can't. if you want to stick w/ the stock turbo, don't install any cams yet, but........ if you don't mind hooking up a bigger snail, then the JUN's are the best bet for huge horsepower. oh, and the idle is awesome. not that it's smooth like stock, but lumpy like a bad a$$ race car.
peace,
jeremy

Well, as you see every one is mentioning 272's, and I heard good things about both HKS and JUN, but JUN is proving to be better for overall power gain.

If you get Jun 272's can you make the car idle better with a set of cam gears?

Got a great deal on the Jun 272's but I only got the cams. Crap so am I really gunna need the springs, retainers, arp head studs and gasket? The only thing I will be running right now is the AEM EMS, 255 fuel pump, and 3" turbo back. Should I have gone with the 264/272 or just 264/264. Please advise because if so I think I will have to sell them.

If you need to sell the Jun 272's send me a PM. You will need the springs and retainers for them. I have some HKS cams maybe we can work something out.

Thanks

It is highly recommended and a must to use upgraded springs and retainers, you have to take the head off so replaceing the gasket , studs and belt is needed as well. I would use a good belt don't spare any expense on it. The only true dyno sheet that I have honestly seen before and after Jun 272's was about a 15hp gain at the wheels on a dyno dynamics dyno. This person used these though becuase they wanted top notch performance and dependability and they plan to upgrade to a HKS turbo kit so if you aren't going to upgrade and you want to stay with Jun go with the 264's they seem to work good with and without upgraded turbos. I believe Al "dynoflash" car runs the Jun 264's but don't quote me on that.

Thanks to everyone that has respond to my post. I already have a bigger turbo, springs, retainers and a microtech. I am currious for the HP that some people tell. I'm trying to build a motor with good power, but don't know what cam to choose. Thanks again!!!!

As people have said the springs, retainers and gears are needed. If you’ve got the cams then you need the gears to set them up, and as the stock springs and retainers are s**t then you will need them to! I think they are vital on the JUN’s anyway as they have a much more aggressive profile than the hks cams (this is why people say you can use stock stuff with the hks). As for the gasket then if the heads off your going to be needing one anyway and with the more aggressive cams the belt will be put under much higher loads. Either budget for replacing the stock belt more often (like twice as) or fit a stronger one! Id stick with the 272 now you got them mate. If you are planning on the new turbo or you get one in the future then you will be glad. And think of how fast the stock turbo will spool with all that lift hehe.
Chris.
