Rotated Cam Gears

Has anyone put new cams gears on a engine without new cams and rotated them for the extra power? how did well did this work, how hard was the install, and how much tuning did it need?

you can't rotate the cam on the stock cam gear because it's "indexed" meaning there is a little cut out on the cam gear and a little notchon the cam and it goes there..

you can rotate the whole cam/camgear assemble from TDC but then you have no clue how much advance you are running.

if you got $$$ for cams, a few extra $$$ for a cam gear is a good investment.. plus the labour savings of not having to take it all apart later is worth it

I'm not talking about using stock cam gears, I'm talking about buying brand new cam gears and leaving the old cams.

Sport Compact Car did this in September(?) 2003 on a project evo and used the new cam gears to retarded each cam by 5 degrees and picked up a good amount of power.

Sound insane??? I don't know, i'm hoping you guys know more than me (highly likely)

this is safe to do with proper engine management. IIRC that was a vishnu setup. prolly stage 1.
