Boost Gauge Sugesstions? Is an AFC necessary thing?

Anyone have any suggestions on a cheap, and simple, yet specific and accurate boost guage, there are so many, i just dont know what to get..

Also is an Air/Fuel controller necessary to have if im to install a manual boost controller and turn up my stock boost from 19 psi to 20 psi.

Thanks

I have the Autometer boost guage and it works great for me. I have the carbon fiber one and it was like $55 or something like that. You can find cheaper versions on www.jegs.com or www.summitracing.com

Personally I would not make any significant change, i.e. boost, exhuast, filter without an ECU reflash. AFC's as well as other piggy backs simply trick the ECU into adding or pulling fuel at certain points, in a way its patchwork tuning. For about the same price you'd be better off going with a through the mail reflash which accounts for fuel as well as timing with all available raising the boost level in some manner.

As for a boost gauge, personally I have a Defi D gauge which I paid 120 for and I love it. Extremely easy to read and matches the stock cluster. Defi is known to be one of the most accurate brand of gauges out although any mechanical boost gauge should suffice. Be sure to avoid the low level Autometers such as the carbon fiber series etc, only use the Sport Comps. (No offense to Monkey I've just heard stuff about the CF series among others)

I'm just a broke college student anyway. But from what I understand, the C/F guage is just the sport comp with a c/f dial. Babyburner on this forum goes to the same school as me, and we installed ours the same time. He has the Sport Comp and I have the c/f (btw, c/f was more expensive) and they are both reading fine.

I have a VDO boost/vacuum gauge (from my last car, not in the EVO yet). There's no showiness to these gauges, but they match the factory ones in the EVO pretty well.

As for accuracy, it was spot on what it should be at vacuum in my last car. I went with VDO because they are usually a lot cheaper than Greddy/Autometer/Defi.

Got them at summit racing.

good luck,
