My Car is Running Awful

I just got my car back from our local shop this past weekend. They are big DSM guys, but this was their first evo. The Custom fabricated a full 3" turbo back exhaust with a Blitz muffler on it. Looks great, sounds great, throughs a CEL.

They also put in 2 greddy gauges, boost and egt, and an SAFCII. My problem is that right now my car runs like ***. Its pretty good once you get over 3k RPM, but under that, it chugs and cuts out all of the time. My wife rode in it last night and was livid about it!

They are going to be installed the MBC and Intake on Monday, but I was wondering if there was something that I could do in the meantime to help this out. I am getting the next colder range NGK plus tonight, and I have also been told that once they put the jumper on the o2 sensor for the exhaust and eliminate the CEL that will fix a lot of the problem.

The car runs about the same no matter how the AFC is adjusted. I kept the same fuel from 1000-3600 and then taken just a couple percent out for anything over that, not going any more than -6%.

Does anyone have any ideas on what else I can do? I am becoming very frustrated and I feel like I have wasted a lot of money. Thanks,
kyle

check to make sure they set the SAFC-II as a Karman type sensor (under "etc." on the AFC) and as a 4 cylinder on the car-type. If you don't have those set on the AFC, it will run terrible under 3k rpm.

If they didn't do that properly in the setup, I wouldn't take my car back there.

Maybe a little more fuel in the 3500-4500 range.... Bump it up 1% and see if that helps.....

Oh and you'll always throw that check engine light with full exhaust....mines always on....im used to it now, if you reset your ECU it will stay off for 20 miles or so, but not worth it to me......

haha, hey Kyle. I didn't know it was you

ChrisS, not all full exhausts through CEL's - I just bolted up the Ultimate Racing 3" turbo back and I don't get a CEL due to their proprietary design on the test pipe. w00t.

No luck involved - their test pipe is guaranteed not to throw a CEL... it's by design. Go check it out

Your from Indy? Want to meet up some time and perhaps go to IRP? I meet up with a bunch of Subaru/EVO guys in Indy once in a while.

Keith

PS: From what I remember about the super AFC II instructions for the EVO either the written instruction or the diagram is incorrect on the setup. I can't remember weather it was the written or the diagram that was wrong though. Dan from Godspeed set mine up when I was running the SAFC II and it ran great.... see if you can PM him about it.

Yes, I would love to meet up. I used to run my Integra Type R out there, and my Si before that. I have had this evo out only once when it was stock. I had just gotten it. I wanted to run this tusday night, and I will if the car quits acting up. I am getting so frustrated with it. I ordered the new spark plugs yesterday, but they wont be in until wednesday.

If anyone has any other ideas on what may be wrong, or if the wiring/directions are wrong in the information, please let me know,
thanks,
kyle

Keith,

I didn't see you out at IRP last year... I ran my black one there just about every Tuesday. I ended up running a 12.6 @ 114 before I sold it to another member on here. I've got a red one now, and the mods have started up. Let's all meet up for some pics!

I got my car toward the end of last season and only ran it twice up in Michigan (I travel back and forth to Michigan all the time) last season. I have been out to the track twice this year (God damn rain!) and have pulled a best of 12.498 @ 112.80 (traction sucked) on 105 octan unleaded and earlier in the day when traction wasn't so bad I pulled a 12.511 @ 110.65 on pump gas.

Did you see my dyno results thread from my trip out to Axis racing on Friday? Take a look! https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...8&page=1&pp=15

We need to get together soon, we should start a thread in the "midwest regional" and get a meet lined up

Keith

And if that full exhaust has a Cat installed, it will not throw a cell either.
