im assuming the ebc controls boost and the ecu is completely out of the loop... is this correct?
if so, what happens when you turn off your ebc? is there some kind of safeguard if it gets turned off or it burns out?

Yes, your BCS is removed from the loop. The ECU still knows how much air is coming in based on the MAS. Usually when a EBC is turned off, it will just send an uninterrupted signal to the wastegate solenoid and you won't see more than whatever that spring is set for (11 PSI or so in our case).
