Clutch Problem? File a COMPLAINT

Hey guys. If you have had trouble with PREMATURE wear of your clucth on your EVO it is being looked at by the National Traffic Highway Safety Administration Office Of Defects Investigations. Problem is they do not have enogh filed complaints to warrant a full investigation. A buddy of mine works with these folks and they only have half a dozen or less complaints on file. I know for a fcat we have lots more then that just on here. PLEASE make Mitsubishi responsible for their product.

FYI - Your CLUTCH DISC IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BY MITSU UP TO 12,000 MILES. It's in your warranty manual.

If you have had issues or are having issues please go to the following link and file your complaint. Hold them accountable for these cars.

Thanks

Dan

Think Mitsu would take a hint and switch to a beefier clutch or do you think they would continually replace the clutch with the same crap? I think the latter is what would happen.

Bad Trannies too! They have only 2 complaints on those. Trannies and clutches seem to be the big thing so please take the time to fill out a form. Your only helping yourselves in the long run.

What kind of reliability is 13K miles on a part on a brand new car...it should last at least 2 times that mileage...at the least.

I just filed a complaint on the chatter clutch. There aren't may EVO complaints in the site compared to how much complaining I hear on this forum! Since the Evo is so low volume it is going to be extra hard to get them to take action.

Get up their and file your compliants!

Well, my car just may be added to the casualty list soon. Recently having brought the car in for service a tech had told me that the pedal felt a little stiffer and that the car felt harder to get into gears. As to the first part that is a definite sign of wear on a hyrdaulic clutch, as to the second my particular car doesnt seem to have any discernable problems to me in that respect having driven it since. From what I've seen around our clutches are self adjusting therefore the grab point, which seems to be somewhat high from the factory is progressively modified as the clutch wears over time. Having tested my clutch it does not seem like it is slipping. However, having checked the pedal's adjustment and compared my measurments to the service manual I found my car to be somewhat out of spec perhaps leading to the feeling of grabbing higher. Time will tell I guess, but there is a definite problem here either by manufacturer defect or simply an ineffective design. My bet for a select few losing clutches <5k miles in would be the former. My next mod will be a stainless clutch line and a different clutch fluid.

That 12000 or 12 month clutch warantee is out the window if the service dept blames the clutch wear on abuse which in 9 out of 10 times is true. It's very easy for them to say you beat on the clutch and that's not covered. What's covered is a defective unit that goes bad during the first year of ownership.

tHEY HAVE TO HAVE proof OF ABUSE. I dont know why so many folks let these service guys intimidate you. The purden of proof is on the dealer. Call Mitsu if you have to.

AFt3rM4th - Did they call you and tell you they were gonna fix the car and give you a price? IF not they performed what is know as an "unauthorized repair" and you as the customer are not responsible for the bill. Make sure you didnt sign something that OK'd the repair though.
