Melting rear bumpers with exhaust?

I am just wondering why people are having problems with melting rear bumpers with their exhausts, or worried about exhausts that stop short of it. The stock exhaust clearly doesn't clear the bumper. In fact the rear bumper gets pummeled with exhaust gases from the stock exhausts and it doesn't melt. So what's the worry? I myself am looking for a performance exhaust that stays tucked underneath like stock.

I just installed one of the Greddy Titanium catbacks and it too stops just a little short of clearing the bumper. It does get that nice little black soot marking but doesn't seem to melt anything.
