Building a intake heat shiald?

I am not sure on what intake i will get but i know it is on my mod list in the future. However here in the desert it is already really hot, 105, and showing no signs of stoping. So with a cone intake there will be a problem with sucking in hot engine air, or i would think so.

So i was woundering....
A) What heat shialds are aleardy being made and can just be bought.
B) If it is possible to make a heat shiald, or is that to much of a risk at ruining something?

The building part im not worried about its just i dont want to mess anythign up. If also possible, if anyone reading this made their own heat shiald can you post a pic so i can get a few ideas, thank you.

Do you have your heart set on a heat shield.. You might want to consider the APS Cold air intake.. (not that the temps in your area would provide much cold air) Then you can have a stainless heatshield made to shield the intake pipe from engine heat if at all possible.. Or at least thats what I would do.

Here is my APS. Its great, I really did feel the difference. The only problem is Im afraid I'll suck up a bunch of water if it rains.

make one yourself. have a look at soe racing parst suppliers and see if you can get hold of some aluminium sheet (the best stuff is 2 sheets with a insulater in the middle). then just bend to shape and there you go!

you could also mod the stock air box. cover the thing in anything silver and make loads of hoels and duct loads of air from the front bumper! as others have said, dont forget about the intake pipe to the turbo! some heat wrap will help with that (no need to spray it unless you want it to look erm "good")!

you could also look into some loft insolation stuff. the best is like multi layers of silver foil and foam material. cover the intake pipe in that and the cooler to manifold pipe to if you have a after market one!

thanks Chris.

PS you could always move to the UK as we never get problems with high temps!!!! LOL
