So you guys meen that if I install a APS CAI and not re-map, the engine will go bad, or will it be like stock but the only way to get any improvments is to re-map?

Is it the same thing with the HKS unit?

I don't think I can get my ecu re-maped here right now, the only way for me is to install a MoTeC or Autronic, I hope to do that during the winter, but until then... What shall I do?
I realy whant the APS kit...

hi guys, here is what i know about this from our experiences in the UK.

firstly, the cooler the air into the turbo (charge) the better. otherwise lets loose the intercooler and save weight on the later evolutions, 7 and above there is a problem with heat soak (filter sucking in warm air from under the bonnet/hood.) Therefore the open filters such as hks etc promote warmer charge temps. unless you get an aftermarket cold air box, it has been found that a good panel filter such as HKS or K&N or ralli"expensive"art is just about as effective as you can get.

personally i have an apexi together with the cold air box, this works well, the box is cold to the touch after a long run.

hope this helps, save your cash and spend it on twinkies

Il try RNR's ram/cold air out since this is the coldest, most dense it can be

I have the APS cold air intake. . As most know it sticks down into where the intercooler sprayer water tank is, so you also need to get the APS replacement tank. The first pic is without the water tank installed (it normally sits above the intake). My my butt dyno noticed the difference when I installed it. It sounds real mean. The ONLY thing I dont like about it is in the second picture. If you look close you can see where the filter is behind the lower grill next to the licence plate. Im afraid that if it rains or I hit a puddle the right way Im going to suck up a bunch of water. Ive never personaly talked to anyone who had the HKS but I've read posts where a few people have complained about it not filtering all that well. Choose your poisen.

BuLocal: Vad other mods do you have?
Did you have your ecu re-maped?

I would realy like to have the mean sound you get with open filters but ppl say I have to re-map the ecu or else the car will run bad...

My only mods are the intake, APS downpipe/test pipe/exaust, APS blow off valve. Nothing done to the ECU. I have no drivability problems like stalling, backfiring, or anything else. You have to remember that most of the intakes made for the EVO suck a lot of hot air in from under the hood and that can effect the ECU. The APS sucks in cold air.

while it is true that cooler intake charge into the turbo the better, this comment does not make sense. The intercooler does not cool the air entering the turbo. it cools the air exiting the turbo, which then enters the throttle body. just thought i'd clear things up a little bit

It makes sense because both a CAI and intercooler have the same goal; lower the temperature of the air that enters the engine. Both working together is beter then only having one.

^ true, but his comment makes it sound like the intercooler is cooling the air entering the turbo.
