Question APS Cold Air Intake or HKS Racing Suction Kit?

Hi!

I'm looking to buy a new air intake to my Evo8. The car is totaly stock, no mods so far.
The two I stuck on is APS Cold Air Intake and HKS Racing Suction Kit.

Now I heard a guy that had installed a K&N filter here in Sweden had problems with it and it eaven made the car runs worse than stock. Is this the case with these two allso?

I talked to a guy that sold the HKS unit, he told me that it was just to "install and run", no need to do any other tuning. But for 10min ago a read about the APS unit here and someone said that I have to re-map my ECU to get it to work, can this be true? What happens if I don't re-map? Why shuld I have to re-map for the APS and not the HKS unit? This don't make any sense to me.
Please help me out here!!

Btw, this was my 1st post here

first off there is really no point in a "cold air intake" since its going to go into the turbo, and be "heated". i have never had any first hand experience with an aps, but i have an hks, and it does make the MAF sensor funky for a lack of better words, but it throws an error code sometimes, but it has great response it and it works very well. i did my "install and run" but then i was re-mapped for it, so it made better power.

And welcome to evom!

Aps

My Friend has the APS intake, we both have similar tunes, and his picked up 9hp over my stock airbox with dropin. The APS system is very nicely made but pricey.

Not too sure about the APS. I know they make hig quality stuff for the scoobies. I'm pretty sure the HKS inlet pipe is the best pipe on the market right now. The filter kinda sucks. I would buy the HKS RS inlet pipe with the AEM filter. Check www.boost-solutions.com They sell them seperately.

ps. I have the complete HKS RS kit. It was the first mod I did. It made it spool a li'l quicker, made the turbo and bov louder. Sounds awesome. But then again, any open element intake will do the same thing. It depends on personal preference I guess.

According to Al (dynoflash) he said the APS makes big power but absolutly has to be custom tuned. Since he tunes hundreds of evos accross the county I believe his word over most. As for the "Cold air doesn't matter because it gets heated" thing; I dont belive this to be a good reason not to use a CAI. First of all if you send 50 degree air through a 100degree turbo housing and measure the temperture after the turbo housing it will be lower then if the air was 75 degrees going through the same 100 degree turbo housing. The real benefit of the CAI setups out there is that the filter sits in the lower drivers side opening in the grill and the air will not only be cool outside air but will also be hiting the filter at the same speed as the car is moving.

My 2 cents

Go to dynoflash.com and then email Al and ask him if he can flash your ECU. It normaly costs $199 US plus shipping.

What is you fuel octain ratting. Do you have AYC and ACD?

Also JDM ECU has 3 maps for fuel and ignation were the USDM has 2 maps. I would suggest looking for a local tuner to you.

Here is a pic of our CAI so you get an idea. We have been selling a lot of these lately. They defintely make more power over a short ram. Both need to be tuned properly no matter what.

I believe you can do a drop in K&N filter and that won't affect the MAF reading at all.
