i thought it was set at a max boost of 12.5 psi... maybe thats just the wastegate and not the boost restrictor

i was never too worried about the stock boost level... just the future boost level

The stock fuel stystem is better in an evo (450cc injectors compared to 510cc) as well as a better fuel pump i believe.

The stock boost level on a 1g DSM (90-94) is around 14-15psi i believe... but it also has a much smaller intake track. Some people can run 18psi on a dsm w/ stock fuel system... lack of fuel cut permitting.

Your right, the dsm 4g63 can handle 21-23psi on a stock engine internals... The evo has a slightly higher compression ratio (as noted above) and i believe it has a slightly longer stroke. the newer evo's all have much better technology in both the electronics and engine... they can handle just as much as the dsm 4g63 can...
Evo injectors are 560cc since the evo VI I believe. Stroke is the same but not much else is.

What color are the 560's? blue? blue is also 660

Not much difference is compared to what? the engine designs is basically the same... differences being the obvious, along with newer technology and nicer internals but overall the engine remains the same with nothing more than upgrades IMO.

The Evo III engine was related pretty closley to the US 4g63. But after that they rotated the evo IV 4g63 180 degrees and have changed everything else in the four versions since. Not much interchanges anymore.

Yes i know this... Thats the obvious part that i was hinting at in my earlier post... i was hoping that i wouldnt have to mention that because it is rather common knowledge.

But the engine is still the same engine... i could build something comparable to an evo engine or even better with a US 4g63... with a different bore, rods, head, different cams ETC. i could even turn the engine around so it would look the same in an engine bay. I would spend more money doing this than it would be worth, but it is possible.

Thats why i say its nothing more than upgrades... its not like they have greatly changed the engine over the course of the last 10+ years. Yes there is different internals and its done a 180 in the engine bay ETC, but the block has stayed for the most part unchanged... therefor everything can be matched with the right amount of $$$.

Edit/ theres a rather large discussion of this in the poll thread (not so much the relations between a evo1-3 engine and the newer ones, but the engines overall changes)

The stcok boost on a evolution 7 is about 8 pounds of pressure. The turbo can be safely boosted to about 17-18 pounds of pressure without damaging anything or having to get a modified ecu!!!!

safe boost for a 04 evo 8

ok I have a question. I have a 2004 lancer evo 8 with the following mods:
Turbo XS Utec ECU
DC Sports TB exhaust (Header,o2 housing...allthe way out the back)
AEM EBC
AEM Wideband o2
Unorthodox adjustable cam gears
Greddy intercooler with upper and lower piping
intake filter
evo 9 JDM blowoff valve
I have more but they don't apply to the question, so here it is.
What is a safe boost level that I would be able to run with these mods? I have not gotten a knock yet and I have hit 26.6 PSI once and I run a steady 25.3 when I'm racing. I run 91 (only because I don't have a choice,I live on guam and thats all they get) but I have not gotten a knoch yet. What can the internals of my motor handle?
