Smile Stock Boost on an EVO VII?

Hello fellow tuners. Can someone please tell me what the stock boost on an EVO VII is? I have not hooked up my boost controller as yet. Thanks in advance for your kind responses.

Unless someone with Evo7 tuning knowledge is around, you should probably call a tuner or post something on the MLR (http://www.lancerregister.com/bbs/index.php). It is a UK (mostly) board, and there are plenty of tuned Evo owners there that could tell you for what you need to know and how to proceed.

I did see a web page with the stock boost stats for the Evo7, which appears to be at 0.8 bar (11.2 psi):

I am assuming the 4G63 in the Evos will be able to run as much boost as the turbo Talons/Eclipses? I know people in town that go to almost 1.6 bar at the track - is this anywhere near safe in the an Evo? does the Eclipse use a lower compression engine?

more questions to come!

I thought the j-spec evo VII ran 17psi=1.17210873983862 bar (pressure) stock and the ecu/fuel system was good for between 1.3-1.4 bar before fuel cuts begin.

Can anyone confim this.

P.S. theres a thread with a yellow super evo running 2.3 bar.
He made a high 10sec 1/4mile run a little while ago in sweden.

The stock boost for the EVO7 is 1.2, but sometimes it goes upto 1.3

I thought it was around 1 bar, but I could believe 1.2. This site has the specs for EVO's racing in Australia, but they are restricted so it only says 0.9 bar, the weight is also out as this is for the RS EVO. http://www.procar.com.au/cardetail.asp?carspecid=26 . Just a side note, the STI is allowed to run 1.3bar .

BTW, I also saw a stat in the RALLIART website that the stock boost of an EVO7 is 1.2. On the highways, I usually experience mine going upto 1.3. I think that's just right considering the weight of the EVO7 compared to EVO5&6

The Talon/Eclipse does have a lower compression ratio. Dunno by how much though. The Evo VII has a compression ratio of 8.8:1..

Are you sure about it running at 1.2 bar... I read somewhere that the new higher compression 8.8:1 only allows for you to run 1 bar safely. Oh well. When I got my Evo, I'm gonna get a boost controller and *LOWER* the boost to get used to the car first.

Yah I'm sure. Unless my Boost gauge is not telling the truth

It has to be correct, all E7 that I know of also has 1.2 as their stock boost. Ask any E7 owner....

Oh nevermind, it was 1.5 bar, lol! Hey, did you know that the SRT-4 has a compression ratio of 9.4:1... how much boost do you think it would take to make that thing detonate?

Run better fuel, ignition maps, and goooood fuel and you can take advantage of the compression. Remember, in the Honda world, high compression is your friend, just gotta know how to use it wisely!

Evo 7's 1.2bar stock boost sounds about right.

FWIW STi's ECU cut for boost is at 1.7bar.

its 8.5:1 in a DSM...

The stock fuel stystem is better in an evo (450cc injectors compared to 510cc) as well as a better fuel pump i believe.

The stock boost level on a 1g DSM (90-94) is around 14-15psi i believe... but it also has a much smaller intake track. Some people can run 18psi on a dsm w/ stock fuel system... lack of fuel cut permitting.

I am assuming the 4G63 in the Evos will be able to run as much boost as the turbo Talons/Eclipses? I know people in town that go to almost 1.6 bar at the track - is this anywhere near safe in the an Evo? does the Eclipse use a lower compression engine?
Your right, the dsm 4g63 can handle 21-23psi on a stock engine internals... The evo has a slightly higher compression ratio (as noted above) and i believe it has a slightly longer stroke. the newer evo's all have much better technology in both the electronics and engine... they can handle just as much as the dsm 4g63 can...

Just to correct a little bit.

A 1G DSM has compression of 7.8:1

A 2G DSM has the 8.5:1

Im not sure what the old 4G63 EVO III engine had, but I think the newer EVO's have slightly higher than that. The 8.8:1 sounds right for the newer EVO's.

On my Galant I run up to 19 psi with no knock by running water injection. I also have the JDM front mount intercooler.
My friend runs up to 23 psi with race gas on his Talon.
The EVO engines are heartier than the DSM motors, and might take up to 24-25 psi assuming you carefully tune it and have proper safety measures like water injection and a fuel control.
