Megan Downpipe problems

Yeah just wondering if anybody had some advice on the installation of the Megan downpipes. I have my car at an exhaust shop right now and they are telling me the flange on the dp doesn't match up to the donut flange on the O2 housing. So I call Megan and they tell me that the donut flange can be knocked out and the dp can then be bolted up. Well I call the exhuast shop (I am in Arkansas which may explain a lot) back and they said there is no way that that donut flange could just be knocked out-Does anybody have a clue what is going on here and can anybody help-Thanks a lot!

did you do a search?
this is a thread i made when i installed the mr turboback

when i called them they said it would just bolt up to the donut. i dont know how well it would seal if at all, and the bolts wont work anyway. so i bought a sheet of exhaust gasket material and made my own. and had to buy different bolts and washers. you also have to tighten it after a couple heat cycles if you use this material.

See the attached image to get an idea of what the donut gasket is. To take it off, use a thin lade screwdriver or kitchen knife to pry it off

I just did the install yesterday. and it was a slight glitch. yes just used a screwdiver and pry down on the edge, i just grabbed it and spun it around a few times and it just came off , not a problem. now when you fit things there is a small issue, mine came with 4 nuts and bolts. you can get rid of the springs. and just use 4 regular bolts with the same threads , and the gasket. they should have sent you 2. they are different. i reused all the lower end at the CAT due to the original cat was prethreaded. did install ok, had ok clearance but not much. seem to run good but i will retorque things later. good luck , it as about 1 hr. not that hard but i did wish you could keep the donut gastket. and spring bolts but you have to loose them.

i did get rid of the donut but kept the spring bolts. i thought it wouldnt fit at first, but after a woman's touch (my wife), she actually got under and helped and we did it! we started at the turbo housing and worked down to the test pipe and then cat back. it fits fine and kept the sway bar too.

if you look at your spring bolts closely, you will see why i got rid of them. they have a shoulder and it doesnt fit thru the DP flange. this normally rest on the bottom of the exhaust housing which will allow the DP to move some. with the Morgan pipe the holes are to small and so will not allow the spring to be the part that compresses the DP flange. i know it sounds confusing. but just look they MItsu is using it the bolt goes complete thru the holes and spring is the retainer. Morgan . you bolts are what is holding it on. just take the spring off and see if it doesnt just tighten down. hint. its not suppose to. hope this helps. still works your way just dont need the wt and springs.

I did not trust the Megan DP to fit up to the stock donut gasket and actually seal well enought. I just grinded enough of the DP flange out at an angle so enough of the donut gasket would fit inside the downpipe. You can do this in about 15 minutes with an air die grinder or drill and a grinding bit. Grind just enough out so that you don't grind into the weld on the DP flange. I've ran it for about 2K miles and went back and checked it out and have found no leaks.

thanks that an idea for the gasket, if you want to use the spring bolts you could do the same, and grind off that lip ,then they would function like the stock unit. i dont care to much about a leak i cannot hear, remember it was designed to move a little so you may have a leak for a second then reseal. i will check mine in month or so.
