serious boost bleed issues

boost issue - car ramps up to 21 and holds solid at 20 until the car reaches 5500-6300 rpms, at which point the blow off valve (i think) bleeds boost off down to 10 or less. at this point the car basically quits pulling and the rpms level off. if i keep the foot planted at WOT it will build back up to around 16 and then revent. what is up???

i pulled the vacuum line off the bov and plugged it and capped the nipple (i know, i know reverse spinning the turbo, but i am careful to ease out and let pressure bleed off), when i do this i boost to 16 and hold it all the way to redline with no bleed off. i am guessing it means the bov is malfunctioning?

thanks in advance - marc

thanks man. that fixed it right up.

anyway - programming the boost map to lower duty cycles helps. if i keep the max boost lower than 18 no probs, pulls all the way out. if it gets over 20 major bleed issues. kinda wierd that it blows off all the way down as low as 5lbs on occassion.

update

ok - been turning some wrenches. i have r&r everything related to the turbo i can think of to make sure nothing was loose. i have bypassed the dv, installed a mbc to bypass the factory control, changed maps etc....,

r&r the DP - i did not originally install this. when i looked at the spring bolts i noticed that one was much more conpressed than the other. not good. pulled it off and noticed no donut gasket. does anyone know if the helix DP needs a gasket on the turbo side?? i know the buschur does not, but want to make sure about the helix.

anyway - anybody have any input??

marc

ps - thanks in advance, i am going nuckin futs!

update 2

well - i just got the car down off the rack after breaking for some pizza. took the car out for a couple of pulls. craziness. first two pulls no problems! boost was great thru all 4 gears. then the bottom fell out again. for the rest of the night, right back to the same issue.

only difference i can figure is the car was cool for the first 2 pulls and then heated up.

this sucks. any ideas?

marc

Helix DP retains the factory donut gasket. That's probably the problem you're having running without one on... a leaking downpipe which in turns fudges what the O2 sensor reads, affecting performance.

really? i posted that ? earlier and someone responded that you use the spring bolts and no gasket. ok i will give it a try.

do you know what size? i am sure the exhaust shop that i got the work done at doesnt have the factory gasket anymore.

thanks - marc

put the two plastic fasteners on the intake scoop and it won't suck to the underside of your hood and suffocate your engine.
