I have limited experience vented BOVs. I’ve vented a Blitz, Tial, and a 1g BOVs on my DSMs, and have also heard the greddy type-s vented. My favorite sounding has always been the greddy type-s. The loudest one, by a considerable margin, was the Blitz. I think Blitz engineered their BOV to amplify the sound during discharge as it is loud when letting off the throttle from all positions. The Tial was only loud when letting off from WOT.

I’ve heard the HKS SS BOV in sound files off the web, and it doesn’t sound nearly as loud or high pitched as the Blitz I had.

That doesn't sound promising.

I believe you can adjust the % of recirc/vent to improve driveability. Maybe he simply was venting too much air.

I knew I'd get flamed a bit, but oh well.

Now to a more important issue, can the negative drivability issues caused by VTA be "tuned" out via a UTEC?

Just get the TurboSmart Dual Port. It is the only VTA that properly recirculates air back into the intake and keeps the car from having any issues. It sounds very aggressive as well. I've seen it on a car in person that had absolutely no BOV related problems.

i have used the greddy type-s the blitz and the HKS bov. the blitz is very loud but is it a low frequency noise (no whistle). the greddy type-s is in the middle not a whoosh or whistle VTA. but with the spring mod and Recirculating it is very quite. then the one on my car now is the HKS BOV with about 2.5 threads showing tilted to the drivers side fender. has a loud whistle under boost and at redline a REAL LOUD WHOOSTLE. you want the HKS it is the loudest one with a Whistle sound.

With all the problems my fellow EVO owners has had with BOV, I'm sticking with the factory one. Never had a problem with it, I wonder why?? Hmmmmm. Maybe it was designed for the car perhaps.
