shifting problems

Ok what is the best solution in everyone's opinion on fixing the shifting especially from 1st to 2nd. At high rpm's I have to be slow on the shift or it doesn't go in, takes a lot of time to get it in, no grind but it just doesn't slip in fast like it should. Do the bushings and short shifters solve this problem? It is quite annoying, and I dont want to slam it and break anything.

Thanks,
Eric

bah, all that happens when you slam it is it grinds, i found that just "easier" shifting, with pressing the clutch to the floor helps

If you change your fluid I guarentee your problem will be solved. If you never have, stop putting it off like I did and change it immediately. You'd be surprised on how many metal shavings are in there. If your fluid is old it probably is more like grease than anything. If you have had it changed, buy some stiffer bushings from whoever and install them. They make a more direct shift. I have them and the Perrin short shifter and have had no problems. Good luck.

i think really it is from the trans cant keep up with the rpm and the movement of the trans. it doesnt allow the synchros to mesh together.

Hey STI guy, stick to what you know. That's obviously not an EVO tranny. You don't know the guy so how are you so sure it's his skills. EVO forums are to assist fellow EVO owners with their problems among other things. Go back to STI world and leave the EVO stuff to us. If you want a real car sell yours and buy an EVO. When you do make sure you change out the tranny fluid after the first 500 miles. OK! Go away fly

Yeah...I get that once in a while, too...always when I'm hurrying the shift...grindgrindgrind...gotta ease it into 2nd, not jam it, and be sure the clutch is depressed all the way when you shift...99.9% of the time it's like butter, but once in a while...grindgrindgrind...

Actually, I'm pretty much convinced that is my problem...I think that once in a while I let up the clutch a split second too soon on the 1-2 shift and grindgrindgrind...nothing wrong with my gearbox as far as I can tell...like I said, usually it's like butter...

Any more opinions on changing trans fluid?
Got 1k on my Evo - no trans problems. Time to change fluid? Any special oil?

Change it! Believe it or not there are a lot of metal shavings in there from your initial break in. Use synthetic.

I'm having the same problem. I've got 900 miles on it and if I try to shift quickly with the revs up it grinds, only going from 1st to 2nd. I'm positive I have the clutch all the way in and not shifting too soon. I guess I'll try changing the fluid. Has anyone talked to a dealer about this problem?

I'm starting to keep track of how many times i have this problem. It's probably a couple times a month.

I've got 4500miles on my evo, and i've changed the fluid at around 1000miles. There were lots of shavings in there.

I'm sure if i take it to mitsu they'd say.."you are abusing your car when you shift over 5k".. so.. i'm not wasting my time.

Synthetic fluids are something I'd tend to shy away from in a transmission, due to past experience with different cars. They weren't Mitsubishi, but as long as you replace the fluid at regular intervals, I think you'll be in good shape. OEM fluid for me!

I run synthetic and shifting seems to me to be a lot smoother and easier to get into gear. I know a lot of people who use synthetic and have nothing but good things to say. Good luck.
