shifting problems
Thanks for the feedback. I called the dealer, talked to the service manager. He said it definately shouldn't be doing that and for me to bring it in and he would check it out. Figured I'd give them a chance. I'm taking it in next week and will let you know what happens.
Ok,I took it in to the dealer. They had two different techs drive it (without me in the car). One said he couldin't get it to grind, one said it only happened when he power shifted. I asked for someone to ride with me. Well, a third tech drove it with me in it, he shifted it slowly and no problem. I drove it, shifted it quickly, but lifting, not power shifting and it grinded. He said I needed to lift a little more until the car was broken in better allowing the clearances time to increase, about another 2000 miles and he believed it would then not grind. Also, he said this was how he shifted his car at the drag strip, not power shifting. I asked his opinion about syn fluid for the trans, he said he would definately recommend BG Snycroshift but only after about another 2000 miles. I'm going to try that and see what happens.
its happened to me before two and made a wonderful grinding sound. i found that the pressin the clutch down all the way really helps, but then again the evo is my first stick so it could be me
I had the same problem. Solved it with a Stainless Steel clutch line, shifter bushings, underhood shifter bushings, and I removed the clutch resistor pill. Also, the BG syncro is the best stuff for the tranny. I no longer have second gear grinds and the shifter now feels like butter.

i missed second a couple times, stock shifter is pretty sticky cuz of the rubber bushings, get brass shift cable bushings and a shift kit htat has metal shifter base bushings, change yer tranny fluid ect. should make for quicker more smooth shifts.
all shift related bushings you can replace yourself, people on these boards tend to favor redline, i've heard royal purple yields hp increase (so does redline), so whichever you hear less horror stories from haha.
