Cleaning Monster Sport Filter

I have the Monster Sport drop in Filter. It needed a cleaning, so I used the K&N cleaner kit. However Monster SPort cells their own cleaner kit, but it's probably a little expensive to ship that stuff over. Problem is that I get a nice puddle of oil at the bottomof the filter box. I put a fan right on top of the filter and let it dry for a few hours before reoiling, which I only did the top half. Would Monster Sport require a special oil that adheres to foam rather than cotton? By the way I barely used any oil, just enough to coat the top.

Thanks
