REV Limit
Actually stock springs/retainers is probably safer than even chancing it to mess around with the head. Don't run it from stoplight to stoplight at 7,000rpm, but once in a while is okay. I'm in the same boat right now and I've gone 7500rpm once so far. The power of the 272's lies on the top of the powerband anyways. 100% safety? Stay stock!

what parts would you get to add safety. as with a larger turbo etc, the need for reving out 4th gear in the 1/4 becomes important...some people are reving to 9500...i dont need that but atleast 8000-8500 would be awesome so i can not shift into fifth...or is shifting into fifth the better idea? i was always curious about this
The HKS 272s, (which I have), don't have a high lift (I think 10.3mm but can't remember of top of my head), so stock springs are ok.
I've had mine in for 4 months, (3500 miles or so). I run to redline continually, (7850), and no problems.
If you get Jun or Tomi or any other high lift cams, you need springs. Also if you plan on going past 7800 rpms you need better spring/retainers.

yes the hks are fine to run to 7800. After that, ,you want to consider valvetrain upgrade as the prime necessity and if you're really striving for real high rev limit, you need a rebuilt bottom end of some kind for reliability.
I would also recommend additional items I was selling, it's good buisness practice.
Plenty of guys have been running HKS 272s on stock vavle train with no problems.
I do plan on an upgrade myself, but not because of the cams, I'm going for my rpms. I'll also be doing the bottom end to complement the head.
