Some clarification on the stock clutch please (specific failure)

This Tuesday I'm going up to have my stock clutch replaced with the Exedy Twin Disk, but my father brought up an interesting point. My clutch slips at idle, barely moving the car, but if I get on the gas pedal HARD (10-12psi) the rpm's shoot up to 6k, then the clutch GRABS and takes off like a rocket, I shift, it slips again, then takes off like stock. The rpm's get dragged down when the clutch grabs, from 6 to 4, then the engine revs normally (like it did stock). What I don't understand is that if my cluch is glazed how it would be possible for it to hold 300 crank hp, but not be able to move at idle? My father brought up the suggestion that it wasn't just the clutch, but I had somehow killed something in the transmission as well. Any experts want to come in and tell me why my clutch won't grab at idle-3000rpm but will grab like stock when i'm laying down the power?
