Have you made that test specifically and timed it or is it an estimate? What manifold is that you are running? Do you run the ATP 3071 .63 a/r turbo?
We get 98 octane pump gas but that is RON and I think that is about 93-94 ANI or what your grading is called. I have the ATP lower intercooler piping but apart from that it’s stock as well as the intercooler it self. I have both the supplied springs in the wastegate, small blue and big red which should be about 20psi, then I have an aftermarket boost solenoid controlled by the Motec to be able to go above that. I run about 27-28psi up to about 5k where we had to gradually reduce it due to back pressure and knock and I run about 22-23 at red line. I have a full 3” de-cat exhaust with the ATP pipe in the front, a custom 3” de-cat pipe and a HKS Hiper cat-back modified to full 3” where it connects to the de-cat pipe.

All I did was the ole One thousand one , one thousand two, counting method lol , I will get someone to ride with me with a watch. Wow you are putting the boost that high on the same RON? That could be causing the surge you are feeling. That could be timing being pulled, it causes some pretty bad surges . I know cause I had my 3071r pushing 3.2 bar lol was on accident that scared the crap out of me!!! but it felt the same way. Also should try a straight cat delete pipe. They can cause some turbulence in the exhaust which in turns can give you some pretty bad back pressure. I am very interested in the .83 ar housing. How much did you get it for? I cant wait to see the output with that. Well I hope everything goes good for you man. Keep us up to date . Ohya I am also running a borla exhuast header.

on race gas i boost 30 psi and drop down to 27 but its scary so I slow down. this is 2nd time trying race gas since i got it tuned and i just dont want to get used to it or I will miss it more and more when I run 91 only
. Dan we should meet up some time when i move back to VA next year.
Hi,
Since there seems to be some negative comments floating around on the 3071r .63, here's my 0.02,
My 3071 breathes through the stock airbox and I'm using the XEDE for tunning. Yes there's some lag. Especially if not running an electronic boost controller (don't know about a mbc). Once I installed the profec and boosted to 25 psi, the car spooled better than without it - maybe the profec keeps the wg tightly shut. As for tunning, shiv sent a reflashed ECU and David told me to put all XEDE values in 0 and start from there. So I did and ended with a 10.8 A/R and a bit more advanced timming for my leaded race gas setup. Lag went down from 5,000 (before the profec) to about 4,200 (car makes boost sooner but it ain't pulling hard) and EGT's lowered to 1,575 from 1,650. Last sunday between my father and I we did 5-20 minute sessions at a local track with no problems. Car pulls hard, but more momentum (and left foot braking) is needed before the the apex on the slower corners to keep the turbo spooled. All in all I'm happy and more important so is my father - he didn't even wanted to drive the porsche!
And for the juicy part, on the way back home from the track I raced my father (me on the 993t) and although the 993 jumped a few car lenghts ahead on spool up in second gear I wasn't pulling away from the EVO on fourth gear. The 993 did 12.008s at 116 a few years back, so the evo has to be really close to that time.
My take on SWE is that you might have done too many mods at once to actually nail the culprit of the surging. Hopefully it's only what your tuner said and with ATP's awesome customer service you should be on the road in no time. Good luck, José.

The profec is awesome, that is the same thing I am using. I love the start boost feature which keeps the wastegate shut till the last second then boom you are off
Come on out Az3ar I am always happy to meet new ppls . As far as mods go , I would like to think that I have quite a few on mine aswell. I have had 0 issues with the surging.

great race. But why are you spooling a bit late? Me and Dan are spooling at 2800 rpm and hit full boost by 3700 rpm and many people have ridden my car and saw that. 26 psi for a split sec @3700 rpm then drops to 23~22 all the way to redline.
thomas,
i think your problem could be a number of smaller and bigger things..
BOV's with a weak spring or design can surge, boost controller could be bad (definitely not a big fan of solenoids at all... i'd pop a good cheap MBC in there quick just to test), cams might not be a good match for the turbo, bad tuning, bad gas!.. (could've been a very big part of it actually..) etc etc... could be so many things...
it'll take some time to figure it all out.. but you'll get it done!.. i'm sure!

Whats up guys, im new in these boards, and i've been reading since the begining of this thread. I badly want the GT3071 kit but there is so much talk on goods and bads here, i have a HKS RS intake, HKS SSQ BOV, full 3'" turbo back B&B with test pipe, profect E-01 & E manage, Walbro 255 lph Fuel pump, and a perrin fuel rail ....What should i do?
Are you guys running the stock clutch??
whats safe boost with stock internals at 93 octane???
