I have Tomei procams on my Evo. The duration is 260 degrees not 270. The high lift necessitates upgraded valve springs and retainers.(I used Ferrea titanium) I am very impressed with the Tomeis, but you need the usual supporting mods to get the full benefit of any cam upgrade.

Yes, the design of teh Tomei proves to be one of the best. Great spoolup and midrange, and great topend.

We dynoed 493whp on a Greddy T67-25G, pump gas, and Tomei Procams... 25psi and small water/methanol shot. Very safe tune, because it is a road race car.

Actually the Tomei Procams now come in 260/270/280 degree durations
Originally the 260 was the only option and the only one listed on their site. But they now stock 270 and 280 where previously they had t be specialy ordered.

From what I undertand though ( and I could be wrong ) The 270/280 cams are more suited to strokers and /or those running past the stock redline.

Cheers

Yes, tomei indeed now stock cams for all 3 different durations. Personally, am thinking of either the 260 or 270 procams. I wonder if the low to mid range would suffer more for the 270 compared to the 260.

I want my car as a daily driven one, occasional track use. i'm surely not into drag can't decide which cam to get ?!!

I personally use the 260 degree procams with tomei springs and retainers.

It is perfect for a stock engine as you lose almost nothings downlow but gain alot higher up. ( higher boost then stock will reap more gains)

I have tried a mates car with the 270 cams in and I feel that the power band has shifted up a bit and peak power is a little beyond the stock redline.

If I was planning a big turbo or stroker, I am sure that the 270s would be on my mind.

from what i understand (mostly read from internet), if i run the 270s with stock turbo and original stroker, i can use cam gearswith retard setting in order to bring down power band to more usable range. So with the 270s + cam gears i can ideally get solid mid to high end power without sacrificing low to mid range right ?

dun quote me on this bit but you are correct tin saying using cam gears will give you some flexibility to move the power band around but IIRC you get better response at te expense of top end power. You are not actually makeing the power band wider. Even in the case of a 260 cam , you can use the gears to get alittle less response and a litle more top end power. I suppose you can ask if you want more mid range torque or more top end power.

Have you thought about Piper 265 degree cams with 11.5 lift?

so you may end up with the equielant of a 260 cam....

but if your intention is to get a bigger turbo or stroke the engine at some later date then it may make sense.
