Free Hp! Balance Shaft Removal

Hey guys since im going to be rebuilind the engine i was wondering what everybody thinks about the balance shaft eliminator kits. Is there any downfall to having them besides the extra vibration? It sounds like a good idea "same as light weight crank pulley" but i want to make sure first. Becouse i heard terrible things about my underdrive crank pulley so i pulled it off just to be on the safe side. For the extra 10hp you gain off the balance shaft removal is it worth it? Does it hurt the engine at all like the underdrive pulley could do?

The problem with most underdrive crank pulleys is the lack of a harmonic balancer which can cause the failure of the oil pump among other things over time. As far as the balance shafts go, its nice to have them out of the 4G, but you do have the possibility of getting a whole new set of oil pressure problems. If its done right then it is a neat mod and worth it.

Ya the crank pulley i pulled off and now it is making a great paper weight. My main question was about the balance shaft eliminator. The parts are cheap and since i will have everything torn apart i was wondering if it would be a good idea? What kind of oil pressure problems will i run into? Will it get serious? Is there a way to solve this problem?

It's been done thousands of times with the DSM's. You will note increased oil pressure which in general isn't bad, but there are seldom cases in which during initial startup (ie: cold) that oil pressure is excessive and that can cause problems.

The additional vibration is minimal to non-existant, at least it was in the earlier version of the 4G63. I've done it to both of my previous DSM's. I really didnt notice that much difference even with a stiffer motor mounts.

like the other guy said....cold start problems mostly...typical problems that occur with high oil pressure...The oil pump was designed to also accommadate the balance shafts, without them, it builds more pressure than neccessary. IMO, its just not worth the headache fora measly 10hp. I noticed little butt dyno difference, i decided to just take it out and go other routes for more power. Im not saying it'll make ur engine fail, mine never did in the few months I had it installed, but IMO, its just not worth 10 hp.

Well i basically already got my turbo and fuel done already. GT 35/40R kit with 850cc injectors controller by AEM with Walbro 255. I was just getting ready to install either a stroker kit or just some new rods a pistons and head package so i figured i would ask while i was in there. What can that high pressure do when idling cold? Also i have a set of HKS 272/272 cams for sale if anybody is interested. Along with the Unorthodox Crank Pulley we talked about...LOL.. PM me if your are interested.

There are ways around the high oil pressure. It's no a "bolt-on" type solution.. It's been done sucessfully on 4G63's of the DSMs.

PM me with your asking price for the cams if you would!

Sorry to revive such an old thread but I have just removed both the balance shafts and the oil pressure during cold idling has increased to around 85PSI. After it warms up, it drops to 30PSI though. Will the high oil pressure create any problem?

Do you have a 2.0 or 2.4 engine?
