Question Is the Typhoon Intake a piece of crap??

I purchased one before consulting our forum, and was to find that several people were having problems with it. I (like several others it would seem) am about to sell it without even installing it to avoid wasting my time and gaining nothing but a headache. I plan on getting my ecu flashed for it, but will it be to no avail? Does anyone have any positive things to say about this intake??

yeah its a total piece of **** i did what you did and purchased it without consulting the forum and it got bit. It makes the car run terrible.... If you havent opened it then dont and sell it on ebay you will probally make @least 90% of your money back if un opened...... Basically the issue i was having was it made the car run super lean the only time i got it to run some what decent i taped up about 75% of the air filter and it ran ok.... but looked like pure **** after that the stock box went back on and it felt like a whole new car. It also got waaaaaaay better gas mileage........ basically for me i fought with it for about 3 months and its a but it sounds good and looks good lol.....

one would think that they would be able to put something together that was at least half way decent. like you guys, all i have read is that this thing is a total waste of time and resources.

You need to have your evo tuned for an airfilter or else it will run like crap.

Thumbs up

I have heard many discouraging things to iafter I bought mine but it will work some people and not others. When I first put it on it did give me probs, but after I clean the MAF sensor it worked fine. The I had it flashed for the filter and it works great. I have nothing to compare it to b/c thats the first filter I bought. But considering, if it makes the car run lean, then it must be pulling in some mad air, which if tuned properly can make some nice HP for you.

Ive had no problems with mine actually. It is loudandI like it alot to be honest. It is also the best looking one out there too besides the ARC induction box. i thought about taking it off for the hell of it, but no reason too I think its giving my car more power so why. one day i might throw the stocker back on just to see whats up , but who knows no reason too right now.

any kit with a new inlet pipe will cause problems all for the same reason. That being it draws in so much air that the ecu can not correct enough for it, a flash or fuel controller will solve the problem.

Maybe..maybe not. If I remember correctly Al said to stay away from that intake setup..it was hard to get a good tune with...
It seems that this is the "worst" intake kit when it comes to throwing the maf readings off and inconsistant.

Peak torque drops at WOT using this intake, that's why i kept my stock airbox with just a K&N drop-in filter.

Just letting you know that Vivid Racing tested the HKS RS intake and wasnt happy with it. Just goes to show different strokes for different folks. I respect Al b/c he flashed my carand knows what the heck he is doing, but after he did it, he said it felt like it was one more of the stronger feeling cars he has tuned given the same mods. People fall into a comfort zone for a certain part. I am sure everypne has their own opinion that each part on their car is the "best" part you can buy.
