Evo Diff. & Trans. Fluid Change Dealer Quote
Well I just went in today for an oil change at the dealership I bought my car at (Westborough Mitsu, in MA). I asked the service department how much it would cost for them to change my diff. & trans. fluids. and they quoted as follows:
Fluid cost = $61.95
Labor cost = $116.00
Grand total = $177.95
Does this price sound right
I don't want to get screwed, my cornhole is still soar from the oil change, tire rotation & filter price tag. Why I ask is because they said they haven't done an Evo fluid change yet so I don't know if they pulled this estimate out of there a$$. I am currently at 12,000 miles and was thinking of getting this service done between now and 15,000 miles.
Before anyone says: "just do it yourself its cheaper", I don't have any tools or the knowledge to do it myself....I wish I did.
Thanks for the help in advance

I would check other dealership because they do have different prices. You don't have to go to the place where you bought the car. Also since they haven't changed those fluids on an Evo yet, I wouldn't want mine to be their guinea pig.
It cost me about $50 and free main tranny fluid. The center and rear diffs got Mobil 1 75W90 synthetic, and the rear got a $5 bottle of
LSD fluid from the parts counter. Total cost: < $100

Thanks for the info...
I hate my dealership...they are a bunch of friggin idiots! They are oh so happy to sell you a car they don't know crap about! I swear they try and screw me every chance they get
I will get prices from other Mitsu dealers and see how it compares.
As far as how the rest of you got the fluids change and then sum...how the hell ya did it is beyond me. I act as nice as I can but they always try and get me
. Maybe I just look like a sucka. Either that or I am so picky that they try and mess with me.
If anyone in the Worcester area in Mass. knows of a good quality Mitsu dealer or garage to do maintenance on Evo's I would love to know about them. They would have a LOYAL customer.

The key isn't to be nice, it's to be courteous but professional in disputing charges. I initially got my estimate for $180- for swapping my fluids. I told them that's simply not within my budget, and the charges in my opinion seem high. I asked for a line item printout of each charge. The labor charges were fair (1 hour total) but the fluids were astronomical. I then asked to consult with one of their EVO qualified mechanics to see if there were any replacement fluids I could purchase that would satisfy the requirements of the DiaQueen LSD fluid, which is about $10-/pint. We looked in the computer for alternative fluids, and it listed various weight oils. I asked his opinion on the best store-bought substitution I could get would be. His response was my thought exactly, which was Mobil 1 75W90 synthetic gear oil. Unfortunately, he thought that would be good for the tranny too (which a call to the
tech line confirmed) and convinced me to put it in. A couple days afterward, I found out that's NOT the right stuff for the main tranny, so got it swapped to their normal GL-4 tranny grease at no charge, not even for the fluid. I got a 10% discount on everything I paid for.
In more cases than not, I even inquire about a 10% discount on all my parts services and normally get it. In fact, since I've gotten my EVO, my dealer has given me a 10% discount on every part and service done. Getting work at a dealer is the same as buying a car: the price you get is just a starting point.
Good Luck!

Use Redline 75W-90 in the TRANSMISSION also known as TRANSAXLE or use the OEM fluid.
USE Royal Purple SAE90 in the TRANSFER CASE and REAR END or use the OEM fluid.
DO NOT put Redline 75W-90 in the TC or REAR END. It is too light and lacks the necessary friction modifiers. You will blow up your TC with this. It is for the TRANSMISSION only.
