Pulling fuse #1 under the dash disables the coils.

I am not sure which fuse to pull to turn off the injectors. On my GSX, I pull the engine fuse and then crank the engine over for about a minute to reprime the lifters.

Also, a lot of people change their oil a day or two after installing a fresh set of cams. So if your car is ready for an oil change, install the cams right before it's due.

I normally do it for about a minute or so. Your lifters will still chatter for the first 10-15 minutes after you start up your car. The chatter will stop after a while.

Actually, a minute is quite a long time to be turning your engine over w/ the starter. I think I crank the engine for closer to 30 seconds.

That's not a bad idea to do mods one at a time. It makes things easier to troubleshoot when working the bugs out.

Follow that advise! If you start to make serious powerbefore you change them you run the risk of stretching your head bolts and blowing a head gasket. They are the one item decided to "cheap by" on when I did my new cams and it looks like I'm now going to be paying for that.

The car was solid for a while, but I'm starting to see the very beginning tell-tale signs of a head gasket going out. Looks like it's time for a ported head!

One other note about my cam job. I ended up needing an air impact wrench to loosten the cam gear bolts and the center bolt (the one that bolts into the cam) on the cam angle sensor.

Good Luck!

How much boost were you running when your headgasket let go? How was your car tuned? Detonation will kill your hg faster than anything.

Stock headstuds are fine at 21/22 psi and below with proper tuning. 4g63 headstuds are stronger than what you think but if it isn't tuned correctly it will blow everytime along with other things as we all know. The cam gear bolts aren't that bad if you have big wrenches but some could be harder than other I guess.

When you put in the cams you will probably loose boost so you will want to turn it up some and with cams you can run 1 more psi safely if tuned and sometimes higher. So keep that in mind becuase I know that you want to take full adavantage of them.

oh yeah of course i want to take full advantage, but unfortunatly I will not be able to at the moment. I will be on stock cam gears for now (fallback), SAFCII but not wideband tuned until a few dyno runs in September (fallback), and that being the only source of management at the time combined with the fuel pump.

Understandable, and atleast you are willing to wait till you get on the dyno with a wideband hooked up to tune. Alot of people wouldn't be able to wait and would probably take that risk so it is smart on your part for sure, you have to respect that.

But, if you are ever wanting to tune your self on your afc it is very easy and you can buy a WideBand 02 for about 325 bucks and road tune so keep that in mind basically meaning hopefully you aren't paying a whole lot for the dyno time. Because you could be doing it yourself for just a few sessions cost. Just somthing to keep in mind.
