I just talked to the guy at the parts counter and they ordered the part # mentioned in this thread and someone they ordered it for uses it and has NO problems with his ABS interefering with the limited slip differential. They also said list price was $3009 and he would give me a deal for $2500 plus taxes, this part is only available from Japan. I'm not sure if that is a deal, but I think the Quaife LSD looks like a MUCH better deal. That unless you need to replace a broken transfer case or you dont want to open up the transfer case yourself, then buying the entire assembly would save you time, but probably not money.

Believe whomever you want, I am racing the car with the RS front lsd and it interacts with the abs much like I suspected it would. For normal street driving you will probably not notice the difference but push the limit and you will notice when the abs gets confused and resorts to ice mode - the stopping distances increase dramatically.

I wonder if the Quaife will behave the same way. hmmm... Isn't the quaife also a helical type diff?

Did you get the assembly from Showcase MItsubishi? You may be the guy I was talking about!

So what are the options for someone who wants to do this swap? Is there any other method of disabling the ABS other than removing the fuse or disconnecting a wheel sensor?

Can someone explain how a helical gear LSD behaves under braking conditions? I'm failing to see why adding a front LSD will make the ABS go into "ice mode" "at the limits". If you are braking in a straight line, both wheels are turning at the same speed whether or not you have an LSD up front.

I just called Quaife they told me their diffs behave like an open diff under braking so we shouldn’t have to worry about it making our ABS act up. They also told me their diffs were helical. I’m not sure how the RS diff works, but it should be similar right?

not similar, identical. 93esp has only his perception backing this up unless he somehow produces hard data.

there is no LSD effect in a worm-gear type LSD. there's also no LSD effect when one end is in infinite slip (in the air or a nearly frictionless surface). those are two facts about helical diffs no matter who built them or what the bias ratio is.
