Nope, there's a rev-limiter right around there to keep you from hurting things

Over-revving a little when hitting fuel cut probably won't hurt anything as long as you grab the clutch pretty quick (sounds like you did).

Over-rev by downshifting is another story...accidentally drop it into second (instead of 4th)from fifth at freeway speeds and you could be due a new valvetrain.

If you're really **** you could do a compression and leakdown test, but if she's running strong I'd say you're fine.

C&D when testing the EVO had stated that "Redline comes in at 7000 RPM's but stay in teh red all the way up to 7500. The line is merely a suggestion"

I run my to 8000 ith 272's Its a beautiful thing.

I run to 7500 all the time. Then again my car is set up to handle it. I would not worry. dude has a very good point by the way you don't want to do that.

over revved my car one night trying to shift into 4th but hit 2nd. Went to about 8000-8500 rpms and the car still runs strong, not a thing wrong with it...

Many ECU reflashes reset the redline to 7800rpm or so on otherwise stock cars. You will accelerate faster shifting at 7000, but the headroom is there.

As long as you didn't over-rev it past 7700-7800, you are alright.

Redline is 7000 RPM
Stock rev limiter kicks in at 7650 RPM
The engine is mechanically safe to at least 8000 RPM, so no worries...

Some more info for you.

Generally engine damage will show up after the engine has undergone several cooldown cycles. You won't notice it right away.

That said, if you can drive normally for quite some time afterwards, you're probably alright.

Hitting the fuel cutoff isn't so bad. The cutoff is there to save you. Like someone said above, mechanical overrev will kill your motor because it's going very fast and nothing can stop it from overrevving.

I think you're okay. Just be more aware of your speed and gearing in the future. The Evo revs up very quickly due to the short gearing.

I pushed my car to 7500rpm by accident once during a race with a Porche. He didn't win.

At the time my car had 4000 miles on the odo, but when I got home and cooled down, that new car engine smell was back.

Hopefully I just cleaned all the carbon deposits out. I'm at 14000 on the odo now wit NO problems.

I'm fine, you will be too.
