the engine cuts the fuel b4 any serious damage can be done but dont make a habit of it, if you have enough money you can remove the limiter and add forged pistons and connecting rods which allow u to rev up t 8000rpm as safe and easily as 7000 stock but remember that the 4g63 is a long stroke engine, reving that fast is not a good idea

at 8000 rpm on stock dimentions bore 85 stroke 86 the pistons already going 4502 fpm

bah, I'll let it hit the limiter, it's fine.
That's why it's there, to prevent damage.

Dude, why? That high a rpm your just making noise, not power. Shift lower in the band range to hit the sweet spot on the turbo.

Easy answer, the guy that I have been racing with and at the particular track that we are racing at just happens to be that if I shift to 4th, I lose. Any other day, I'd shift, but it just happens to be coincidence that I only pull like 500 rpm in 4th till the end. So instead, I just pull to the limiter.

Does any of that make sense?

Some people just dont get it. I will be running 9K and can go up to 10500 with the springs and retainers i got when i get my block and head back this week. Of couse it is fully built now. The stock valvetrain on the older DSM were good for 8000-8500 without much of a problem. It looks like the evo is running the same stock valvtrain so i wouldnt really worry about a 8K redline but online if you have cams or cam gears to continue to make power at that rpm. Anyway you are doing good! the track we have here we basically run in 2nd all the way to redline somtimes getting into third but not worth it.
