Question XS Engineering FMIC

I looked all over these forums and I have found nothing on this kit. I was wondering if anyone here has it? I would like to know how they feel about it. In the new DSport there project Evo gets one installed and the numbers are pretty good. 14 whp gain and the pressure drop is only 0.39 at 7500 RPM's. The air temp in was 187F and out was 102 while the stock one was 186 in and only 151 out. Please let me know your thought on this IC.

No, but you can get the entire kit. The piping is 70mm. It requires a smaller battery, but not a very small one. I mean you don't need one a 1/3 of the OE size. It's approx. $400 for the IC piping and $799 for the IC itself.

Then I would rather get the Greddy FMIC since it comes with a new lower and some upper IC piping for cheaper.

Greddy is also close in size to the XS-engineering IC. I would not want to waste money on a battery plus 400 extra to gain 7whp with the XS engineering intercooler piping kit.

I would want to spend tops 1000 for intercoooler piping and FMIC for the car (Greddy). Also like how Greddy did not spray their company logo on the frony of the cooler.

I think both FMICs are a great buy. Still, I would like to keep some greenbacks though.

The logo on the front is not standard you have to ask to have it done direct from XS. You have good points about the Greddy, but I have read many places that the Greddy unit is for low boost applications and that it only supports up to 400 hp at the crank. That would be a waste. If that's all you wanted you should just stick with stock and save your money.

Just so you know I am referring to the V-SPL intercooler and not the R-SPL.

Which Greddy FMIC? They make 2 different types. I suspect you are most likely talking about their V-Spec core.

Here is Greddy's propaganda regarding their R-Spec core FMIC:

R-Spec. Core

GReddy R-Spec. cores feature a high heat-dissipating "Inner fin" design. This is ideal for medium to high boost levels on higher horsepower or upgraded turbo engines. The larger internal surface area provides superior cooling efficiency for radiating excessive heat and minimizing heat soak. Some R-spec. kits are labeled "HG" or High Grade; these kits feature piping and end tanks that have been hand-polished to a mirror finish for the ultimate in show quality aesthetics.

Check out the last line of my post. I can't remember what tuner shop it was, but I was told it doesn't support very much power. They told me to get the R-SPL core if I wanted to make a lot of power.

This is how David Buschur feels about XS fmic. Quoted from Buschurforums.com:

There are some kits out there that just don't work. A few have been tested in the magazines.

A recent issue of Import Tuner had a test of the XS Engineering FMIC kit in it. The car actually lost up to 17 horsepower under 5500 rpm and as much as 18 ft lbs of torque across the entire RPM band. Not something I would want to put on my EVO. The intercooler also cost $899 for just the core.

As far as testing the intercooler for temp drops we didn't. We have dyno'd the kit and seen 10-15 across the entire RPM band. Our kit also comes with the very short lower i/c pipe and sell for $750.

They are made by Carbing. We just finsihed test fitting the new US version where it incorporates a brake master cylinder brace. They will be coming to the US very soon so keep an eye out for there stuff.

as far as the XS Intercooler, remember Import Tuner is a magazine for the car show crowd, dont believe everything you read in there magazine. We tested the intercooler and didnt lose any horsepower anywhere on the graph... we saw a 14.1 whp gain with the intercooler itself and another 7.4 with the hard pipe kit.

Pick up our latest issue and you can see the graphs for yourself.

Thanks!

Robbie

Intercoolers are also not for stock cars. It was said the car should be putting out 300+ before them right? SOme say 350+hp
