2nd - 3rd gear high rpm lockout?
2nd - 3rd gear high rpm lockout?
Ok guys, well Im really starting to get annoyed by my car at high rpm shifting. Only in high rpms shifting from 2nd into 3rd, 3rd seems like i am hitting a brick wall and will not let me in. I have to rev a few times after it locking me out until it will actually fall in. This is the only gear that even gives me trouble. It usually shifts fine when driving normal but not always, but gives me trouble 99% of the time when shifting high rpm 5-7k rpm. I have Pennzoil Synchromesh in, but it only made it feel better for a certain length of time. I may eventually get some kartboy base and linkage bushings soon or some other brand, but even that may not help. Am I the only one that gets the lockout? Its not my shifting as I have tried different methods of shifting into the gear. Different angle and holding the shifter with my palm.
I used to get it al the time, but its very rare now. I think it's due more to trying to shift too fast than syncros being worn out. Right now I have the Kartboy shifter bushings, ACT Clutch, clutch line, and new fluid in the tranny. I've slowed down shifting into 3rd, but every other gear is fine. I can actually chirp the tires on a 3-4 shift pretty consistantly, but 2-3 has to be slower.

Had the brick wall feeling several times on high rpm 1-2 upshifts. That was only for the first 1500 miles though. After that it seemed to disappear. Now I do get a grinding on redline 4-5 shifts. Goes into gear with no problem just a grinding no brick wall. I believe I read on this forum that there is a TSB on the 5th gear synchro. I mentioned this to the dealer and they said they would have to look at the car. I asked if they would test drive the car to attempt to duplicate the trouble. They said they would drive the car but unlikely would drive it at that speed. I said the problem does not occur at a slower speed. I deceided to live with it for now. It has probably happened about 100 times. Usually at the end of a long straight.

I just got this damn problem today. I was practing shifting faster..and out of nowhere 3rd is locking up on me. I thought maybe it was at 4k and above, but nope even at 3 and 2500. Its like i have to double clutch to get the gear to go in. If i throw it in, it will go...
Yea, it's happened to me on a few occasions, more often on the 1-2 shift, which ends up grinding as well. It's also happened on 2-3 and 3-4 shifts. I never shift to 5th quick, so I've never had that happen. But this is more due to driving error, being all caught up in a race or what not, heh.
Try this. Push the clutch in all the way. You think you are but you are not. Also, don't move the shifter until the clutch is ALL the way in. Also, you need to adjust your pedal a LITTLE bit to make it engage a fraction of a second earlier so the synchros have more time to open. It's not the car. It's the driving. Most of the gears have double synchros and they take more time to open for gear selection. Be more deliberate with your shifts and you will be ok. You can shift fast, but do it right. This isn't a Mustang or Camaro where you can just rip the shifter (I used to do that too in those cars). It's a cable operated shifter. There is a bit of delay in that too but you have already begun to alleviate that with the bushings. Good luck.

Its really starting to annoy/bother me.
