Shelf life of gear oil?

I just purchased a 1 gallon container of OEM gear oil for the transfer and rear diff. I will have some left over for another TC change in the future. How long can the oil be kept without it "going bad"?

I know brake fluid you should use a new unopened container is recommended. How about gear and motor oil? Thanks.

I've used some old stuff before without any consequence. It doesn't absorb water like brake fluid does.

it will oxidize over time, but nothing horrible. If you keep it sealed and don't open it often, you can probably get 6-9 months without worry.
