Break in methods, Beat it to death or baby it?

I recently had to have my engine rebuilt and now have to break it back in. I belive the reason for my previouse engine troubles was the rings not being seated properly due to a poor break in. I have seen many differnt views as to the best way to break in an evo but what do u think? Also is it true that your supposed to NOT run synthetic oil for the first few hundred miles? I have heard that the mobile one synthetic that it comes with from the factory won't allow the rings to properly break in. If so what kinda oil should I run for break in and for how long till I switch back to synthetic? Thanxs in advace.

My evo broke in properly with synthetic oil. I just drove around normally for 1000 miles without over-revving, but using regular engine oil to break-in does make sense. I say go ahead and give it a try.

think of it like this, ifyou baby a motor durring the whole breakin and then suddenly take it to 7000 rpm's for the furst time under full boost do u really think that breakin is going to help... if i tell you to go to the gym and lift 50lbs every day for 3 years then tell you to come over hear and lift this 200lb rock u tihnk your going to be able to lift it? lol no of course not... I say baby the motor for about 500 miles then gradually take it up into higher rpms... first 500 more then 1000 more and so on and so forth for another couple hundred miles
then around i don't know 800 start boost had on it remember a motor will breakin for about the first 30,000 miles so jsut because you've reached 1000 miles" the break in period" it doesn't mean crap get the motor slowly use to what your goign to be doing with it and it will last a while...

About the oil i'd jsut use the synthetic... the motor is pretty much broken in from the factory the only things that need to be "broken in" are the rings and valve as well as other non motor related parts... what do people do after building a 20,000 dollar motor take it to a dyno and make passes on it to see what kind of power it makes... Only motors that need to be broken in with dino oil and carefully watched are motors with reconditioned parts (ie. block, heads, rods.. etc)

Hope my 2 cents helped

S-e-a-r-c-h - it's in the upper left hand corner. This has been covered at least 10 times in the last month.
