Anyone running an APS cold air intake?

I've been looking at the APS parts and their cold air intake looks like a pretty slick deal. I had a K&N Typhoon and ran that for a couple of months but felt that it lost a lot of top end power and boost, most likely due to sucking hot underhood air instead of the factory snorkel deal.

I'm currently running a K&N drop-in with the stock air box.

Just wondering if anybody is running one and what your thoughts are about performance, sound, etc? Any issues with sucking up water, etc?

Thanks in advance,
Bob

i have the aps intake and its great a hell of alot better than the AEM. sounds a little different not as loud. also a little pain in the *** to install but worth it to me. it also helped with some stalling issues i had with the AEM.

there IC looks cool, but the intake has to have some tuning done to it.but i guess if you take it to someone who can get it right, then it wouldnt be bad.i guess i'm still voting againest it

I got the HKS rs intake and it works PERFECT! No power loss at all, Al dynoed a car with a HKS RS and then put the stockair box back on, it was 11WHP more with the HKS RS intake.

Don't listen to this guy. He does not know what he is taking about!!! Anyways I have the Aps cold air intake and the quality is one of the best I have ever owned and seen. It looks like a stock piece under the hood!!! As for performance the power this thing is makes is amazing!!! Definately feel a difference in performance!!! Everyone knows that colder more dense air equals more power. I also have the Aps dual vent blowoff valve. Installs in 5 mins, vents both into the intake and atomosphere!!! No stalling what so ever!!! Sounds awesome!!! Turns heads The Australians know how to make great products for the Evo!!! I give Aps product 2 thumbs

I think the APS intake is one of the nicest on the market... BUT it does have it's downfalls:

1) Installation - I have never installed one but it seems like to need to remove the front end, or at least wheel liner...? If not - I guess it's not bad - but what about when you need to clean the filter? Another PITA?
2) Price - Like Astro said, you can get the InjenWITH Upper ICs pipes for about the same (less?)
3) HYDROLOCK - Someone already hydrolocked their motor with a K&N. The position of the APS filter is ASKING for it to happen.

Injen for me.

love aps but keep in mind that you have to purchase their intercooler sprayer resevoir if you wish to retain this function, this could get a little pricey, I can honestly recomend the Buschur filter and pipe because I run it. not trying to sway at all though.

Thanks for the feedback, I was unhappy with the performance with the K&N Typhoon setup (but really miss the cool noises) but figured it was due to drawing air from the engine bay versus outside cold air. Seems like the stock ECU is very sensitive to intake air temp. The thing pulled great from down low but really seemed to lay down after 5k.

I'm still just shoppin' right now but haven't seen too many posts with people running APS stuff. Just looking for feedback.

Also I'm a little concerned about "dyno" numbers after my experience with the K&N. It probably did make 14 more hp at the wheels, but that's with the hood up and a bunch of fans blowing on it.

I think it is a whole different deal with the hood closed, going down the road with a ton of hot air coming off the turbo and manifold, etc.

Just my $.02

Ive had one for almost 4 months. None of the problems people have with the under hood intakes (loss of power, rough idle, cel's). This is a true cold air intake. You will feel a little extra power and it sounds great. The APS intercooler water resevior is off the car in this pic. The second pic shows where the filter sits behind the grill, next to the license plate. I made a splash guard for the filter to make sure the water stays out
