My Impressions and a question on life expectancy of Exedy Twin Disk Clutch
My Impressions and a question on life expectancy of Exedy Twin Disk Clutch
Well ive had my ExedyTwin Disk for a month or 2 and my impressions are as follows:
Right after install, Very common loud drivetrain chatter, Extremely Sticky, Hard to get into different gears..
After break in:
Drivetrain chatter very Minimal, shifts are smooth and dont get locked out though first still locks me out...(a simple clutch in, then rev, then into gear fixes this).. Engagement starts to grab low but doesnt really engage until almost your almost off the clutch just like stock one.. LOUD Humm replaced drivetrain chatter when engageing clutch... (people look at me like i have a broken car sometime but this happens only in first when you start, or when you downshift..
Overall im happy.. its VERY STICKY.. you have to be smooth or the car bucks a lot esp with the AC on..
My question is, will this clutch last me forever..does having a twin disc double its life expectancy if driven properly or should i still be conservative. i I dont launch my car, but i do like to ride this clutch in first a lot which is bad in general.. But i figure hey, ive got two discs and ive never smelled clutch burning so it takes it like a champ and doesnt even bother it.
Anyone else have similar impressions or can shed some light on the amount of abuse this clutch can take...
Thanks!

This clutch does give off some smell when slipping. I haven't noticed it too much lately. Maybe because I now have over 2000 miles on the clutch. The clutch is great but it does take some getting use to. A normal street start does produce an occasional brake squeeking noise.
I would guess that this clutch would last a very long time even with occasional high RPM launches.

ask the evo-m member ILLRUNYA he has had that clutch forever and prob done over 300 launches on it. He is just coming time to replace it...hes prob had it for a year and a half of hardcore track days and abuse...and he is replacing it with the same one, because its great.
Anyone had a problem with that clutch? I heard form a service rep that they had 4 cars in with the excedy twin with problems. Something to do with the throw out bearing. You don't get a T.O bearing with that clutch, u use a OE one. This has led to probs supposably. I ended up going with an ACT/Fidanza set-up. So far I love it...Anyone have a aCT? How do you like it? How long has it lasted?
Anybody knows this clutch inside out or have first hand experience? From what I know, this clutch is not meant for daily driving, but rather for track use only. It also doesn't last long either under daily driving, even with good driving practice. The pads are very thin. All this info is straight from an exedy-clutch distributor. He estimated that the clutch will last somewhere between 5-30K miles, depends on driving style.

So which clutch is the best clutch for the street and ocasional track days, I mean is there any clutch out there so it can outlast a stock one with ocasional launches ??? stock sucks i lauched my car once at 8500 miles and the Smell was in my car for like 4 hours it was unreal so far i got 9600 miles and no problems but i dont launch and i wish i could i am in the market for a new clutch cost dont matter i just want the best for the street/track and i will be upgrading my car very shortly performance wize i want to get into 10's
Ok guys...here is what I've gathered from a major exedy distributor. It's bad news for all of us. THERE ARE NO SUCH THING AS AN AFFORDABLE, REASONABLE 420WHP DAILY DRIVING EVO. It's one hell of a car to keep up in term of maintainces and etc. Once you approach 400whp, you'll need a twin disk. From what I know, most single disk will start slipping bad around 400whp. So the only solution is a twin disks. The bad deal is that any twin disks will not last long, due to the fact that they are meant for track, racing use. The pads are purposely made thin for fast shifting, which in turn destroy the longevity of the clutch. SO if you want a twin disk setup in a 420whp+ evo, be prepared to replace that clutch at 20-30K miles. That means, annually! Those pads cost 200 each! ARRRRR....
I need some1 with extensive knowledge about this clutch to chime in. Please....
