30,000 miles still stock clutch
30,000 miles still stock clutch
how many of you still using stock cluth? i have 30,000 miles on my evo, stock clutch still good as new. but when you guys said the clutch is out, then that means the whole thing need to be replace or i can just change the clutch disc?? please help, i know little about clutch.

I'm at just over 17k miles on mine and so far so good *knock on wood*
Most of the time when you replace a clutch you want to do the whole thing not just the plate because other parts wear too and if you already have everything all apart or if the mechanic doing it has it all apart it doesn't take much more work to do the whole job and the price for labor will be the same either way so might as well do it all so something else doesn't get messed up later.
Also I would recomend putting in a slightly stronger clutch anyway because the Evo clutches are prone to problems it apears you got a decent one and don't drive it too hard but I would still recomend something a bit stronger maybe like the ACT clutch its the one of the cheaper ones out ther and will drive like stock but be able to handle a lot more thats what I would do if I were you (when it does go out that is)

You don't need to replace the pressure plate when replacing your clutch, but I would replace the TO bearing when changing the clutch disc.

Now that people are approaching 50K on a stock clutch makes me wonder how people are blowing them out at 3K. I know someone who blew his in under 2K. It's all about driving style and abuse. There's nothing wrong with the stocker if you drive properly and it seem to handle extra power fine.
It is all aobout abuse. If you are feathering the clutch too much, with the revs too high when you are starting and shifting, you are obviously going to wear out your clutch in short order. When you smoke your clutch, you know that you are smoking your clutch. Maybe some of the youger kids on here don't realize it?
The stock mitsu clutch feels fine to me. I have 5.5k miles on mine with no probs, and I have every intention of gettnig 40-50K out of it, even with mods. Those of us who aren't spoiled or rich know how to drive better because we don't like to **** our hard earned cash away on corrective maintenance.
