mostly street I would say go with the 2.3

2003lancerevo8 Nov 16, 2010 09:31 AM

I would probably have to say a built 2.4

JohnBradley Nov 16, 2010 09:37 AM

I have owned all of them but the 2.1. I like my 2.4 for easy street power. The 2.2 was good for the part of me that wants a bike motor in my car. Austin needs to hammer some Subes ;)

LEANING TOWARDS 2.3l lol

2.4 seems a lil much? but then again i want to keep the fp red maybe switch to black later..

2.3 stroker kit
twin disc clutch
double pumper and bigger injectors?
cometic head gasket

anything else you think would be needed?

JohnBradley Nov 16, 2010 09:57 AM

2.4 is the best way to keep downtime to a minimum and allows for a LR 100mm stroke vs the 2,3 being limited by max rpm.

NOMIEZVR4 Nov 16, 2010 09:57 AM

why not just get a 2.0L and higher revs? I wanted to go stroker but lately ive been thinking why not just get a built 2.0 and rev to like 9.5K. With a fpred you will hit full boost around 4k but can go up to 9.5k.

It all depends on personal preference, but we have been selling mostly 2.4l variations based on the affordability of the cores and the upsides of increased displacement in a daily driver. If you're worried about revs you could even go with a long rod 2.4l and find yourself in a best of both worlds scenario ;) I would love to help you out whatever route you decide to go!

What are these 2.4s spinning to. My 2.3 spinds to a healthy 8.3k so I wouldnt say the 2.3 is gimped on revs.

+1

8700, there is one I can think of that is north of 9200.

aaron

wreckless969 Nov 16, 2010 11:18 AM

8700 is the standard?

NOMIEZVR4 Nov 16, 2010 11:18 AM

WOW! I was always under the impression that 2.4l would only go to 7k. 8700rpm is damn good.
Now is that on a long rod?

wreckless969 Nov 16, 2010 11:22 AM

I like the 2.4 but as a personal thing there are just 2 things I can't get around.

1 No oil squirters

2 I just dont like the idea of having a Galant block. Pure Evo engine for me.

JohnBradley Nov 16, 2010 11:22 AM

8700 on a long rod. My rev limit and Mikeys have bee 8691 since we put them together. Turbo and valve springs go a long way. 8500 has been the 2.3 (1.5 R/s) forever, like since DSM days of long ago. The GSR is 1.58 and turns far higher than we do. This has been well discussed in other threads like the "to stroke or not to stroke" thread thats not longer stickied.
