Recall Notice: Cooling fan control unit (C0409Z)

Hi all,

There's a recall out now calling for replacement of the cooling fan control unit. The recall number is C0409Z, part replaced with #1355A052.

Unfortunately I don't know what model years/production dates this affects, but I'd assume all of them. My service advisor said it was just released this past week sometime.

If anyone can elaborate on this further that'd be cool... mods, please move to the appropriate forum as necessary.

This was performed under warranty btw.

The cooling fan controller unit only affects 2003 Lancer Evolution models produced before July 2003. Other cars affected with this problem is 2002-03 Lancers and 2003-04 Outlanders produced before July 2003
The part # for the lancer and outlander is 1355A053. So far at my dealership we have not replaced any Evo control units. But we have replaced like 5 outlanders since the letter went out.

I have not recived my letter in the mail as of yet, but i was at the dealership today and my service manager told me im included in the bunch of recalls... Anyone know the explanation to why the unit needs to be replaced? its obvious that it fails just wondering if there is a detailed reason mitsu has stated

When you say Laner, that means evo too correct? That is the part number mine was replaced with but Webguy stated a diff number.

No the lancer is a seperate part number from the Evo. The Lancer shares the same part with the Outlander not the Evo. Sorry your dealership should have replaced the part with part # 1355A052 that is the correct part number for the Evo.

The reason why it is failing is the way the piece is soldered. Some people especially outlander owners are having most of the trouble in my area. The cooling fan is staying on constanly and not turning off in most of the outlander cases. I'll try to give a better explanation when I get to work tomorrow.

I spoke to my dealer and they said that it is not affected by the warranty. In other words it will be done free whether or not you have a warranty.

I got this letter so I brought it in, they had 3 recalls for me...this one, an o2 sensor problem and the weight label. It took them about 2 hours and they didnt mention anything having to do with the mods on my car.
