Racing Question

Hey, i was just reading through that thread that discussed illegal street racing... but i was wondering what you guys consider street racing... Because, i'll pull up beside a guy and race him 0-60kmh (which is the speed limit) but i'm scared of going much further because of what has already been discussed (police, risking others lives etc).... So my question is, where do you guys draw the line?

Actually it doesn't matter if it's too the speed limit, if you're in a contest of speed, they rape you.

Let's see... you pull up and race to 60kph...that about 37.5 mph and you live in Las Vegas? But to answer your question.. NO.

this is a good question. i live on the coast, and a shot in to portland (the biggest city around) is about 60 miles. it is a good drive and i make it almost once a week. anyway, sometimes i will get into it with a guy, on open road. not neccesarily racing, but driving together quickly. always wondered what the law says about that. i just hosted a run with 11 lancers on the same route and more, and we pushed the speed limit, is that a race. even if we arent attempting to beat eachother. what do you all think?

Even if you race to the speed limit, they can still probally pull you over for wreckless driving even if you aren't acually racing somone. You can't just gun it from a stop to the speed limit and then let off.

They can get you for noise (tire squeal) and reckless driving regardless of being under the speed limit - officer's discretion unfortunately ... I take mine to autocross or drags ... um ... mostly. NO body can say they've not hit it hard to beat someone into a lane reduction or something at SOME time ... *nods*

In Pennyslvania you will be arrested for racing if a police officer feels you are in "competition" with another driver. The final speed has nothing to do with the definition. Zero to 25 can get you ticketed here. And I agree with others that any street racing is dangerous and should not be done.

Speedlimit...

"Drag race."
The operation of two or more vehicles from a point side by side at accelerating speeds in a competitive attempt to outdistance each other, or the operation of one or more vehicles over a common selected course, from the same point to the same point, for the purpose of comparing the relative speeds or power of acceleration of the vehicle or vehicles within a certain distance or time limit.

"Race."
The use of one or more vehicles in an attempt to outgain, outdistance or prevent another vehicle from passing, to arrive at a given destination ahead of another vehicle or vehicles, or to test the physical stamina or endurance of drivers over long distance driving routes.

Guys...why did you buy this car. WE ALL have dropped the hammer down from time to time. You know you've done it... Don't get on these guys cases because they love what they drive. WE ALL KNOW street racing is ilegal, but not all of us can get to a race track everyday. I'm just saying lighten up a little.
