hood vents?
I see a good amount of Evos that have the vents in the hood taken out, what I mean is the actual metal slits. I think it looks cool but is this even worth it and are they any downsides to doing this?

There are several threads about the vents (louvers). They are to prevent direct rain from getting on the exhaust manifold. This would cause stress cracks and eventually just split the cast manifold. Remember mitsu has to warranty the exhaust manifold too. If you live in a dry area (Cali, Vegas, Ethiopia) I would say take them out. If you are like me and live in a rainy area or snowy area keep them in.
I take mine out for racing to open the hood for better airflow. If you read into it the hump in front of the hood vent creates a (-) negative pressure zone above the louvers sucking the hot air out of the engine bay. Removing the louvers would only help to increase the max volume of air that can escape. This means cooler engine bay which means more power... how much is up for debate. Not enough for me to crack my exhaust manifold over.
Hope this helps.

True...it might get dirty over time but luckily I have a garage to park in. I don't deliberatly drive in the rain or spray water into the vent so my concerns are minimal.
The engine gets dirty when you drive down dirt roads. Not really so much when just sitting. The loovers only block dirt when the car is sitting. When your driving the dirt is picked up from thru the radiator and sucked up from under the car.
