it takes points off your credit score each time you have it run. and it looks bad when you're having your credit run several times in a short period of time. so i wouldn't have mine run to drive a car - it's just needless points taken off.
This is wrong info. Having your credit profile run does not detract from your Beacon Score. It does get marked down as an inquiry and if you have too many inquiries within a few months it is a signal to creditors that you may be trying to gain too much credit in short time. But a few within a couple weeks will not hurt you as you can easily explain to the crediting agency that you have been shopping for a car. They can verify your claim by actually reading your profile and seeing who has been running the inquiries.
If you doubt me, check with your bank's loan officer.
