Higher idle with heat on.

Has anyone else notice that their idle goes upto about 1050 when the heat is on? I thought this was strange. I never noticed it any other car before.

Actually I bet you are either in defroster mode, or the combo mode that includes the defroster. Any time the defroster is engaged it turns on the AC system to help dry out the air for better de-fogging capability and when the AC system is active it bumps the idle up to avoid stalling from the additional load of the AC compressor.

Later,

Keith

Also your heater core requires electricity to run therefore your ECU compensates the load on the altenator by speeding up your RPM's. Happens on every car.

Never noticed this on any other car but I am not doubting you.
