Mitsubishi quotes 9.5 HOURS for brakes and lines

okay, i've got front and rear brake pads + front and rear goodridge brake lines that i want put on my car at the same time as my oil change/tire rotation..

the guy says 2.2 hours PER axle for brake pad replacement

for brake "hoses", he says 1.3 hours PER corner

so 4.4 hours for brakes and 5.2 hours for brake lines.

okay, what experiences have you guys had? any suggestions (other than DO IT YOURSELF.. i cant do it myself)

thanks

wow...charge someone so much for easy work so either a) they will actually pay for that labor or b) they will take it to someone else or do it theirselves and then you can void their warranty since the parts werent dealer installed (usually)

either way you pretty much get screwed...i would say do it yourself if you know a few things about cars and can fix small problems that might occur with the car...otherwise, try another dealer...either that or just take it in the butt from that one

if pads and lines really took 9 hours per car, then none of these small brake/muffler shops would be able to stay in business or keep up with demand...they would have to keep a majority of people's cars in their garage overnight...

i would say pads and lines would be a 2-3 hour max job with the proper equipment (which mits should have)
good luck!

a little off topic but.....

they wanted to charge my girlfriend $100 an hour at her local scion/toyota dealer (she was curious and asked). how long does it take to put on an axle back exhaust? wow crazy stuff.

Those arent warranty times, they are customer pay times. since you are bringing them the parts you want put on they are going to charge you more... usually time and a half what warranty pays. brembo calipers are super easy to swap pads on and they shouldnt charge you that much per corner to swap brake lines. that is crazy , try and negotiate with them on the price since its a customer pay job... those times are way too high.... see if they will go with this

1.5 front pads
1.5 rear pads
1.0X 4 = 4.0 for brake lines (Including bleeding)

i think this is still pretty reasonable to the dealership where they are still going to make money and you will save money also. figure 7.0 compared to 9.5 hours thats $200 in money you will save figuring around $80/hr labor.

9.5 hours is way to much for pads and lines... i can change a clutch on a 996 turbo quicker than that.

the times quoted were times only, they know ive got my own parts

i just contacted another place and theyre willing to do the 15,000 mile service for 120 (cut down from 220 thanks to pit pass) and 180 for front AND rear pad replacement..

theyre not sure if they want to do the brake lines because of liability :/

If you're not too familiar w/ working w/ brakes, I would suggest trying to find someone local to help you. It's really not that difficult, but it is your brakes afterall. Should something go wrong, the end result could be disasterous. Most shops should be able to install your brake lines and pads for a decent price. The time for a shop do a job like this should be 2-3 hours.

If I lived any where near you I would do it for beer. Seriously, why can't you do this yourself? It is simple. If I had a lift like Mitsu I could do this in an hour and a half. Don't pay them. somebody in Cali help this guy out.

Why not just take it to a reputable shop instead of the dealer? I hope you don't think that the dealer can do a better job.

If you have little or no clue of what the job is involved...

Don't do it yourself !!!!

Brakes are what makes your car stop. If you some how forgot to tighten a brake line , improperly bleed the system, pu the pads in the wrong way, if you stripped a thread on the brake line, ect....
You have nobody to blame or sue if you get into an accident.
It's not worth it.

Just find a reputable shop like " Alias" suggested.

For flat rate for custom work, The techs name their price not the dealer.

For a reasonable rate I would bargain for:

1.0 hr for install front pads
1.0 for rear pads
2.5 for install pads and cut rotors per axle--bleed included ( 5.0 hrs front & rear )
0.5 for each brake line ( 2.0 total )

So that comes out to 7.0 hrs. if you want your rotors cut.

Good luck . I hope you make the right....SMART decision.
