Duplicate EVO key and new remote?

Anyone had experience trying to get a new key and remote for their EVO? I need to get a spare. Any insights as to how much pain was involved would be appreciated. I did a quick search and did not see anything.

You take your vin number to the dealer. They'll cut one out for you with the immobilizer in it.

That shoud cost around $100.

Then they have to program your immobilizer to you car. That should cost you around $80 ~ $100, depends on your dealership.

+ the cost of the remote.

This should only take about 30, 40 minutes.

The key has imbolizer which means you have to buy the key fo $30-45 than pay pay to set the key. I was lucky and got my key for $30 but some dealerships charge $80-90. Call around to get the cheapest price.

You can a car alarm with two remotes for $199 instead of paying over $100 for a remote.

I think there are threads on here somewhere that tell you how to program the immobilizer yourself. I vaguely remember seeing it. Anyone know if you can get a normal key (like from any shop that makes keys) made that may only be used for opening the doors or truck?

Best wishes,

All you need is to buy a Mitsu cut key. You can save money by programming it yourself...

I see the keyless entry remotes on Ebay all the time. I'm not sure how you program those though.
